Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. If I had a soft topper, this would be the route I’d go. Currently, I’m running a bed rack and a cap sounds good right now…except the price tag. Having a soft topper would keep the weight low and adding a bed rack would allow mounting on the outside. Weight is a big factor for me and being able to change up the setting throughout the year. Looks like a good setup👍🏼

Hi Jason. I use an uptop rack with my softopper on my colorado (2018 & now 2024), and to make the softopper's water tight I used two different thicknesses of weatherstripping. I also found it's easier to remove one of the side pivot pins when putting in and removing the softopper. When I tried it with both pins installed I kept getting the frame hung up on the pins. Much easier with one pin removed.

I should have said, I use a thinner weatherstripping where the "feet" of the rack are, and the thicker everywhere else

I like the looks of the soft topper under the frame. I know time will tell, but i think it will work out fine for you (of course having the Dodge make chores that need an open bed easier). Congrats on 100k. As far as the bed rack. It’s not really for me, but glad you like it. It just seems like a bit much aesthetically- so busy. Less is more. But hey, if you like it, that’s all that matters.

@@n1sm0r No, but now that I've added more weight I should consider it! Thanks for bringing that up. If I eventually go with a full camper or enclosed topper I definitely will add bed stiffeners.

Congrats on 100K subs, Jason!! The rack does make the Tacoma look like a tank! (In a good way) I think my preference would be the rack alone without the softopper. I totally get why you'd want both, tho (dust, little extra concealment, etc.)

Yeah softoppers are great for keeping stuff dry, but not so much for dust unfortunately.

Congrats on 100K subs, Jason! Merry Christmas to you and your family. I'm calling it now... that rack will be on Marketplace in 6 months. It looks like a quality-made rack but I can see the disappointment in your face when you talk in the video about how those racks kill the functionality of the Softopper, which seems like the biggest draw to that particular topper option, outside of price and weight. Keep the GFC Superlite on your 4Runner and start saving for a canopy camper for the Taco. I went down the mid-height rack and side-folding rooftop tent road on my Colorado and regretted it. Nice work on the video!!

All fair points. I’ll give Peak CNC credit for also selling this rack at an extremely good price compared to others (if this is the route someone wants to go down). With current exchange rates it’s right at $1000 before shipping. That’s super reasonable compared to the other Softopper racks out there. Merry Christmas!

I know this is about the rack , but I’m curious if you can open the tailgate without messing with the back window?

It seems too bulky, the beams should be narrower, I'm also not a fan of black colors. On the plus side, it could save the bed and the soft top if a large branch fell on it.
