Also not a fan of transfer tape. I need to be able to do that small alignment and the tape doesn't let you do that. I have a full roll on my shelf. Another awesome vid though! I'm building The Flatiron District right now, and I'm going to try your board distressing technique on the Annex building.

I noticed something that you wouldn't see in real life, which is this-- the back roof of Goldring Oysters butts into the back wall of Langford Ice Co. Whenever it rains, the water would saturate the back wall with water, causing it to rot out way sooner then expected because the water has nowhere to go. Obviously not your fault, but the designers. I've spent a career in the construction business inspecting buildings, which is the only reason I noticed the discrepancy. Thanks for all the great techniques you've showed the public over the years !!

Thank you so much Bob!!! I don’t get to serious about modeling real life. I just have fun with it. I always take an artistic point of view rather than a realistic point of view. Thank you so much watching Bob!!!

With you working with the same pallete of colours for the majority of the structures, everything seems to blend together perfectly. Something that's crossed my mind a couple of times though: out of all these buildings, there must be one owner who's decided to freshen-up the business. I'm sure someone makes Ho scale painters/decorators so, why not have one building in the middle of being repainted? The paint shop would want to show off their products and could set their staff on the job one weekend. How much getys done is up to you but it could make for an interesting scene. Ladders and scaffolding would be additional challenges. It could showcase some very different techniques and add a splash of colour too, although I don't think the town planners would approve of anything too gaudy. Just a thought; it's funny how the mind wanders when watching someone else modelling.😁 I've been subbed to Thunder Mesa for a while now; great channel. The scale and era won't suit everyone but the skills on view will work on whatever you're building. No rivet-counting over there either, just great modelling - for the fun of the hobby.👌

What an awesome kit. Can’t wait to see your peer finished. I’ve tried that tape once. It’s unforgiving if you don’t line up each piece perfect. I prefer the tacky glue. I had a couple kits with those paper shingles. I couldn’t seem to vision how they went on so I used other material. Do you have a video that shows the detail steps? Thanks Jason

I will check out the channel you talked about, thanks for the heads up. The structures are awesome, and again picked up another technic. I do have a question, my friend gave me a LARGE box of balsa wood would this be ok for bracing? Also could I use it for a base and add strip wood on top of the base ...say to make a pier?
@JasonJensenTrains
@JasonJensenTrains 2 жыл бұрын
Balsa wood is soft so I DO NOT recommend it for bracing. You could use it on a pier just be careful that it does not warp. As always, thanks for watching Will!!! 👍

Jason, you mentioned the building sides are mat board. I have heard you speak of task board on other projects. What is the difference between the two, and when would you use mat board over task board, and vice versa?

When you are using the wax paper is that just to help keep the wood strips from moving around ? Great work
@JasonJensenTrains

Glue won’t stick to the wax paper. If you don’t lay down wax paper, you run the risk of glueing wood to the paper. Thank you so much for watching Jeff! Always great to hear from you!

What scale are these structures on your layout? The doors and windows look like they are wider than a 3 foot width of a full scale window would be. I get a measurement of about 10.5 mm or so.
