Awesome Jason. You are a mind reader. I broke out my box of Rusty Rail castings today and then here I find this gem of a video. Love his castings and his friendly service. Great job on the video. I have found that if you find your self obscuring details with primer try a can of Tamiya Gray primer...or Testors. I believe the pigment is ground finer and preserves details. Other wise I use Krylon Camo primers. Keep up the good work sir. Dr John Sherwood Falcon, Colorado

Well once again I had to slow way down on my train work because of the crazy past year and half and my health , but I'm back and as before I find I watch your channel more then another's. As before I'm amazed at the detail you get with your work. I have learned a lot in the past and used a lot of that information, but still don't get the detail you do. I see from this video you talk about patient and the time spent on the castings. I think that has to be something I work harder on. I have improved thanks to you, but still have more to do. Thanks for putting out great quality work and videos.I'm back working on my layout and will start following you more closely again.

That looks like a fantastic kit. All the little details look great but the interior of the shed is just unbelievable, incredibly realistic and natural. That wee truck is another highlight, especially after such skilled painting. The glass in thecab looks better than real glass, or clear perspex, and comes across as dusty and dirty. One thing I thought of; would a cleaner bit, where the windscreen wipers have cleared it, be a possibility? 😁

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!! You could definitely clean an area from the wipers👍

From your earliest days Jason, I have been an inspired subscriber of yourself, so much so I have bought most of the DecoArt craft paints that you ever used, not to mention purchasing in excess of $300 worth of resin products from Rusty Rail. You are then asking the question, "So what and Why?" First, DecoArt is an American product and I live in Scotland and because, in your early days Rustyrail were used extensively by yourself. You are an inspirational artist, even beyond the skills of Luke Towan, and motivate the likes of myself in modelling . Anyway, today you have added the video I have been waiting on. How to paint them Rusty Rail resin products. Thank you so much and no, I am not going out to buy Ammo products because I have run out of space. However, you could answer this question - "Do you follow the same process and procedures in painting resin products and paint white metal castings in the same way? Take care and congrats on reaching 25000+. Best regards, Mike

You do an awesome, amazing job with painting. Always comes out looking fantastic. On one of the long walls there's a piece you painted blue that looks like thick, round discs stacked on each other with the size of them getting smaller as they go up. I think that is a part from a belt driven lathe where the belt mounts to, to get the different speeds for the spindle. It wouldn't be blue it would be a dark metal color with some lite rust I'm sure from sitting where it is. But it doesn't matter cause no one will notice it once the building is put together and if they do see it most people wouldn't know what it is or study it long enough to figure it out anyway. Just something I noticed. Don't know why I thought it was so important I had to write a story about it but I did. LOL! Great video. Love your techniques and tips. Stay well. -Wil 👍

I certainly don't want to teach granny to suck eggs - I watch your channel to learn stuff! But I stick a galvanised nail with wood glue to my castings - not something you would do if you actually wanted it to stick permanently - and it just peels off when I'm done.

Jason I too have been using the Ammo Dry Brush paints from the time they came out. As you said lots to different things to use them (just not dry brush). As time goes by even though the cost is a lot more than craft paints I think the quality of the Ammo paints will in some cases replace the use of craft paints. Look at the rust set. their colors are spot on & craft paints you can get close. Just me thinking out loud

Hi Jason, awesome job once again on all the casting paint schemes. You always seem to make the kits look so real, I noticed on the truck that you did not paint the windshield or glass panels but rather left them in primer base coat. Is this normal or do you have any other special techiniques on painting these types of castings? Thanks again, love your videos. They show many great methods in detail.

On all my vehicles (cast resin, plaster, even plastic) I paint all the windows a color called Gun Metal (Testors) I do this because it's not Black or Blue. It's in between the Two. Also ALL my vehicles windows are painted this way. Consistency is key. All headlights I paint light Ivory and tail lights a dark red.

Jason, Another terrific job. I've got two questions. How would you handle the trucks windows as smashed, cracked, or partially opened glazing? On a destroyed/distressed junker I would have expected such damage and weathering. Second, had you considered a skylight (or at least half a roof glazing) on your garage structure? Then, using interior LED lights, a viewer can peer into the building to get a better look at your artistry. I'll keep watching, not only for your superb tutorials, but for your upcoming Carolina Crafts deal. ~Jim

Hi Jason - I LOVE your videos. I follow each and every one. I flipped when I saw Eagles Landing and tried my best to get one - to no avail. Then last week I saw that Carolina had one for sale and I grabbed it. Still has not arrived but I'm excited. I noticed it is EL 1 & 2. Of course I watched the Eagles Landing video. How does the 1 & 2 kit differ? Also - I need some FOS help. I love Doug's stuff and he has been very kind to me - sending an autographed kit so I can make a shadow box, I bought one of the Pier kits and it was missing a long wall. I know eventually Doug will send it to me, but I want to make one myself. The materials the wall is made from is that white kind of particle board Doug uses in his kits when the wall is to be covered or stuccoed. What is that material and where can I buy a sheet? Again - thank you so much for all the joy you bring to us in the World's Greatest Hobby!
