SmallRig VS Tilta Follow Focus- Which one is for you?

i've used both systems, sometimes small rig has an edge over tilta on a lot of their accessories, but i will say that smallrig shit tends to always have that one weird screw that falls out - and then you can't get the replacement. between the matte box support, the follow focus hard stop screw, i got so fed up with their stuff just not wanting to stay tight i dropped the entire brand. the one thing i do love about tilta is you can buy all the annoying little screws just in case.

lmao i dont know about western customer support but smallrig will sell you the screws when you ask them

The SmallRig mini Follow Focus does come with a nice pouch. It isn't hard plastic but is secure and really packs well into a gear bag. I wish you would have shown it in your video.

@@dans2833 hah, I get it. It is just that in the review Jason mentions the bag from the other product as if the SmallRig doesn't come with one either. Was just pointing it out. Also I tend to use a Tenba Cinelux 21 Shouldberbag and it has plenty of room for multiple bags/pouches which are even included and very much utilized for me to keep things organized. To each their own.

I think you made a mistake when showing the correspondant broll about how to swap the cog side. You're saying the Tilta is easier but you're showing the Smallrig with the fixed plastic screw. Then you say the Smallrig is a bit harder and that you have to totally unscrew it but you're showing the Tilta. When in fact if I'm not mistaken the Smallrig is the easiest of the two.

I bought the Tilta Pocket follow focus seeing as it is pretty cheap. Unfortunately the backlash is absolutely garbage on it. It can still be used but there is an annoying delay between rotating the follow focus handle and that translating into the lens. I would personally say not to buy it and to buy something else without any backlash. Maybe my unit was defective or maybe that's how they all are? I don't know. Ironically OP Jason Morris never put any of the units onto a set of rails...

When I do multicam for orchestra/chamber music, I do that all the time when on tripod. My team has decided that these product isn't smooth enough for that purpose, and would much prefer the lanparte that I also own, specifically due to the extra dampening it helps provide. We use them rigged to our FX6 + 70-200 + TC combos.

Does anyone know if the focus gear (that connects with the lens gear) is metal or rubber on the smallrig model? Had the tilta for a bit but since the gear is rubber, it would hop off the gears constantly

I’ve had major issues with smallrig returns, and would not look at smallrig for any products again. Tilta all the way for me.

I use both brands, but I have to give some kudos to SmallRig. I complained about a monitor mount and posted a pic on my Amazon review and they immediately reached out to me and sent me a replacement, well after the return period.
