I dropped in today looking for some inspiration. I’ve always meant to try this but was wary of all of the blocks it takes up. But if it sounds good it IS good, and that’s what I’m looking for in a new flavor. Thanks Jason!

I’m guessing I’m gonna get some comments since I’m not an helix owner but I picked up a Line 6 Pod go yesterday and really don’t have a clue how to start building presets. This video really helped a lot since the “workflow” is the same so thanks a lot. Br Daniel

Many thanks, Jason. Love that Dynamic Hall. I've been replacing the verbs on most of my presets with it.

Jason. Quick question, and probably without a quick answer. No need to be in depth here but what are your basic thoughts/reasoning for placing most time based effects after the amp and cab? Dist and fuzz before the amp makes sense and that's their logical and normal place in a real hardware effects setup. But, in a real hardware setup the time based pedals would also come before the amp input or through the effects loop. Placing them after would be illogical in a pedal board setup. I do the same mind you and have from the start, probably because that's how the presets were already established, but I am missing something in getting my head around the Helix digital signal chain vs what the norm would be with real pedals. Thanks for your hard work and dedication to the product.

Just updated my template. Thanks for the template guidance, Jason. When I first got the Helix I was overwhelmed and confused. I saw your videos on a template for your patches, and I knew that's what I needed. A solid starting point. And this has been a tremendous help. I can insert an amp I want to experiment with and other parameters I want to play with and generally come up with a decent sound. To be honest I have bought some patches, and played with the stock ones, and they're ALWAYS lacking. With this template my Helix experience has drastically improved. And it's simplified things, because when I look at people's patches or the Line 6 ones, I am thoroughly confused by what they were doing or attempting to do. This is fairly simple, makes sense and gets you to making music quickly. Which was your idea. Two thumbs up, man.

Jason, where do you like and recommend using a Volume block? I mean, may it be better at the beginning of the chain or maybe better at the end? Do you prefer logarithmic over lineal setting (or vice-versa)?

Question: around 4:13 you show High/Low shelf config. I notice that both high and low frequencies are 650Hz in your config. Wouldn't this just cancel itself out? Or am I misunderstanding how this works? Is "650Hz high frequency" not equal to "650Hz Low frequency"?

Right with you on the updated default-ish Preset!!! Thanks for all you do for the Helix Owners and Users Community.

Sounds great, not surprisingly. Also your playing seems particularly inspired, I imagine as a result of all the new stuff (helix, vigier, etc).

I've noticed that when you and even I build a preset in HX edit, we put the delay and reverb after a cabinet model even though that's not how we do it in real life. I would normally route these effects after or before the amp but always before sending the signal to a cabinet. Why do you think that is?
@florianju56383 жыл бұрын
Good question! I am asking myself the same thing. I often put my delays and reverbs before the cab Modell/IR, because I am so used to it and the high and low cuts from the cab actually affect the delays and reverbs in another way.
@ConstantineM3 жыл бұрын
Putting delay and reverb after cab is like putting mic'ed signal into the studio rack delays etc. Cab block works like EQ here. So putting delay and reverb BETWEEN amp and cab will end up with cab EQ'ing. In many ways it's really hard to tell a difference but there is it.

Fantastic! How about an HXStomp template?
@midwestguitarinstitute98773 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the template, Jason! Been enjoying your videos! Hey, IIRC you mentioned in an earlier video your preference for studio headphones to use with the Helix. Which ones were those? Thanks!

is this ok for HX STOMP
@lancezabatta32023 жыл бұрын
Love your videos, they are very helpful for people newer to the Helix or HX Stomp, like me. If you were going to add in a Chorus, Phaser or Flanger would it be before or after Low/High Shelf EQ?
@Dudeinacube3 жыл бұрын
Awesome video! If I can ask for a favor, one just for the HX Stomp. Maybe even a little drill down about using the compressor limits without a meter on the stomp. Sorry if I'm "that guy" but I really do appreciate these vids!

Cool. Thanks a lot. One question: Are your Marketplace presets updated with this new template?
@mattyguitar223 жыл бұрын
Does this apply to Helix LT? 🤔 I know pod go and hx stomp have their own tone sets right, but does LT just use the same presets as the big helix?
@JasonSadites3 жыл бұрын
Yup, LT is the same as Helix as far as presets go 😀
@mattyguitar223 жыл бұрын
@@JasonSadites oh cool that's good to know. I'm upgrading from the HD500X, and I'm still undecided about either a Pod Go or a Helix LT. I'm leaning towards the LT, just because I think I'm gonna have a lot of big patches with fun pitch stuff and it's just more flexible, but I'm watching your videos about both haha
@jorgenlandhaug6633 жыл бұрын
Heya Jason:) Thanks for this. Is this also for Helix stomp?
@RicCrouch3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your template---I use an earlier version of it all the time. I plan to stick with it rather than this version for a couple of reasons. First of all, this is supposed to be a template for any future patch a person might build. This version adds a delay, which isn't necessarily a "must have" in every patch. Rather than provide a good base, it "flavors" the patch. I also will continue to use the 63 Spring reverb rather than the Dynamic Hall IN THE TEMPLATE. The template gives the sound of a guitar/amp being recorded in a room--the 63 Spring makes your simulated room feel "live" without getting too over the top with the reverb. (Also, it uses quite a bit more DSP which limits your possibilities as you build the patch.) Having said that, I DO use the DH reverb in a lot of my patches, just not in the way the reverb is used in the template. Jury is still out with regards to the Retro Reel--I can see where it would be useful for recording, but I will have to see if it is something I want in my "live" patches. Of course, as Jason so often says, it all comes down to what you want to hear! Thanks again, Jason--I have learned a LOT about how to use the Helix from watching your videos. Looking forward to future videos!

Can the Template be used on a Helix HX effects? obviously with out the amp and cam sims.

Hi. My Helix LT is updated to Version 3.11. But when I try and load the template preset I am getting the error "HX Edit was unable to import this preset because it contains unrecognised models." Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?
@warrenmillar71573 жыл бұрын
Me here again. I found my problem. My HX Edit was still running under 3.01. So updated to 3.10 and problem disappeared. I thought I would post how it was fixed in case someone else has the same issue.
