Correction regarding dual ISO, it depends on PicProfile. For Slog3 it is 12800 For HLG it is 2000

Not “less colourful” but less colour information to work with. Visually it would be almost impossible to detect, but for things like chroma key and high end grading then you want all the colour information you can get. So for straight out of camera, 420 should be fine, for post stick with 422. Also the A7S3 comes with 10bit 422 all i frame which is very large file sizes, but very easy to decode - easier than the codec Jason mentions in the video.

Great video Jason! Just a correction on the 'dual ISO' The Dual ISO kicks in 4 stops from the base iso. The pre production models use to have it at 16000 (slog 3 & 2) but the production models are now kicking in at 12800. To calculate the stop just double the ISO value. For example: NO PP Base iso 80 Stop 1 160 Stop 2 320 Stop 3 640 Stop 4 1280 (1250 on camera) and the next value (1600) is the 2nd ISO Gain with much lower noise. 2nd ISO kicks in at 1600. 😊

Actually even easier to remember the second gain for any profile is Base*20. So 640*20=12800. It's always *20 no matter what profile you go for. Interested to know "when" people will switch. Let's say your scene needs 5000 iso. So is it better to stay there or boost it up to the second gain and maybe use an ND to bring it back? What's the optimal switch point? 5000? 6400? 8000? Fun experiment to try

12800 ISO instead of 16000 was only error in first non production A7sIII,now it is fixed in production cameras,so the right ISO is 12800, not 16000. Gerald Undone said the same in the video you talked about👍

A lot of people seem happy with the active stabilization mode, but for me I struggle quite a lot with it. It is way to intent on going into "tripod level stabilize" so when slow panning handheld with some full stops you get a lot of short jitters stopping and starting. A bit disapointing. I guess it has to be paired with a gimbal to shine.

Im pretty sure the laggy playback has more to do with you using h.265 codec and not the 422 color. That is what your computer is not prepared for.

Great vid! As other's have mentioned, in the production version of the camera Dual ISO kicks in at 12,800 for Slog-3 and it's different with each profile/gamma. Philip Bloom did a great video covering each PP and where the Dual Gain kicks in for each.

the decoding problem only exist on macOS and older windows systems. if you have a RTX 2000 GPU or newer, they fly through those clips like butter because they offer hardware en/decoding for h265

Thanks, Jason. After watching this video, it confirmed that I am right all along NOT to buy Sony a7siii. For videographer or cinematographer, this is not the camera for me. With the recent leak, Sony FX6 would be a better choice for me. It has all the specs of Sony a7siii with an FS5 body and ND Filter, SDI, XLR input, and RAW output via SDI & HDMI; a dream video camera. Imagine the low light of a Sony a7siii and all the cinematic features of a proper camera. The rumor has it, it will cost slightly more than Canon C70. So I will be saving up for Sony fx6 for the next 2 years. Patience, discipline, and the required features of a camera are the way to invest in a camera. Don't jump without knowing how to swim. As Jason pointed out, the hardware of the computer and new accessories required to handle Sony a7siii are a pain in the butt if you are not ready for it.

Watch out with that top handle. It comes lose constantly. It’s the reason I won’t buy the fx6 and never bought the Fs5.. when you’re doing run & gun work, the handle CONSTANTLY comes lose. I was always shooting with a fear of the body separating from the top handle. Be warned. That 2 knob design they use is so stupid. Same thing Canon did with the C100.

Something I just found out to add is that you cannot put a microphone on the hot shoe or you get massive feedback. I've been using the rode wireless mic and have had to ADR hundreds of shots because of this, Thankfully I talked to rode and they said the Sony may have a shielding issue that is causing the feedback. I took my receiver off the camera and let it dangle and finally had crisp audio. I guess this is Sony trying to force you to buy their microphones.

You can shoot simultaneously highest quality 4k and proxy files internally at the same time. Edit with proxy in 2k already generated by the camera and finalize with 4K. Seems like nobody talks about it. Check the menu.

I have the small HD focus monitor and just realized the the A7S III only accepts full HDMI. I went to NewEgg and bought an adapter - I have not tried it yet but hopefully it works. Also, small HD sells a micro HDMI to full HDMI cable on their website.

Hi. Do you get a jittery image on the A7SIII EVF when filming in the 4K S-I 10bit codec. It literally only occurs with this specific codec and is totally smooth with no issues in all other codecs. Main screen is smooth, just the EVF view. I’ve got the latest firmware, reset the camera and tried different lenses with the various stabilisations turn on and off. Wondering if this is just my unit or a more common problem nobody is talking about? Thanks.

@@mirrorlessny I am trying my hand at cooking videos and some 240fps slow motion make the videos more interesting to watch - at least I think so. I love watching "Webspoon World" as his videos are very interesting to watch unlike the standard cooking show videos. I have made 2 entire videos using only the Samsung Galaxy S9+ smartphone at 240 fps then speeded up parts of the video to look like normal videos. The only difficulty I have with the Samsung Galaxy S9+ was its inability to manually set the focus. So I have many blurred videos at 240 fps. The slowed sound is really interesting to hear.

@@mirrorlessny It could be the sun is extra bright in Malaysia so the footage does not look too bad. I noticed that the brightness of the sun, when I was an engineering student in England some 40 years ago, was about 2 f/stop dimmer then in Malaysia. That is probably it.
