It's so beautiful when an old dog gets saved and realizes he'll be loved for the time he has left. I wish more people were willing to rescue seniors! Puppies are awesome but old dogs are such a blessing and deserve all the happiness and comfort possible.

I certainly would! We’re limited to 20 pounds for a dog. So that means small. I want another dog so much. My kids live 2500 miles away so visits are few. But to open the door and see someone excited I’m home would do so much for my frame of mind.

My family adopted a large senior dog. His previous owner never fed him or let him indoors, so he was practically a street dog. He was forced to eat whatever he found, including cats, so the shelter labelled him a "vicious dog." He had been so feral, he never once barked. He only gave little "huffs." But we adopted him, and he was the sweetest, most obedient, mild mannered old man. Even his licks were overly gentle. He was aggressive to cats at first, but after only a few days of training, he let our kittens play all over him! He died peacefully in his sleep at 14 with no prior health problems.

I spent two years rescuing actively but had to step completely back because of the toll it took on my physically and emotionally. I saw the worst things you can ever imagine and actually have diagnosed PTSD due to the trauma. I'm so amazed and grateful for the heroes that keep going and doing what I couldn't. In the end, I ended up with 4 foster fails. We love them all very much but they're now all senior dogs. I've decided that I can't handle raising and loving another dog from a young age, because I'm so devastated at the thought of mine not being here with us as the days go by and they get older so quickly. So once my babies are gone, I'm going to send my husband to the shelter and tell him to bring me the two oldest, "ugliest" dogs he can find (I don't believe any dogs are "ugly", but I know that the ones who are missing eyes or legs, etc., are considered "ugly" and "unadoptable" by those who want puppies), and that's what I'm going to do for the rest of my life. I'm going to spend my middle age and golden years adopting the most "unadoptable" small dogs I can find, so that I can show as many of them as possible, two at a time, at least a little measure of comfort and love, and so that when they die, they die in a home surrounded by love.

Zara, Abe & Precious- You rock! So much respect to you! I adopted a senior boy with cancer about a month and a half ago. Although we only had Sawyer for 3 weeks before he passed, it was a GREAT three weeks for all of us. In such a short time Sawyer changed my life. I just adopted another senior dog last week. Daisy is 'younger' than Sawyer, but needs help, too. Daisy looks to have been a breeder dog, which is sad. She was found 'running at large' in Washington DC. Anyway, I send you love and a hug for adopting a senior cancer kiddo. God bless you always!!!

I think it's an animal person thing. I was once on a trail ride, and I was just talking to the horse the whole way. And the other trail riders were looking at me, like I was a fruit loop, but I didn't care. I talk, sing, chat, whatever with all the animals in my life. IF it has 4 legs and fur, or 2 legs and feathers, I'll start a conversation. You follow your dreams Keith, I'm sure your pups love knowing that you are happy too!

I'm in TX too, and it's not just backyard breeders that concern me, but backyards in general! Right now we're experiencing 100+° days. I hear dogs all the time in the neighborhood crying out for help. They need shade or water, or both! I'll go and knock on the door, and more often than not, I'll have to leave a note. If I could, and if it wasn't illegal, I'd take every one of these dogs home with me, but I can't. I pray they get the help they need.

What a feeling a rescued dog by Lee must feel once they get to Asher House and see all those other saved dogs. I LOOOVE old dogs!💕 And one named "Jasper"? You got me.😂 ETA: Not sure if Houston is worse, but I got all my dogs from shelters/streets of LA. And all except the first (who died of hemagiosarcoma at only eight yrs-young) lived to ~15/16, despite my own personal struggles. This was including the last one, Chet, adopted at ten. So you never know what comfort, companionship, love (and, of course, good food!) can do to bring an animal back to life.💕🐶🌈

It's so sweet to see as soon as you squat down, everybody wants your attention, it just shows how much they love you and you love them. Thank you for rescuing him, my last three dogs were seniors. I lost one last year and just recently got a 17 year old who was going to be put down if she didn't find a home. She is a sweetheart and has just started to show affection for me, I was so excited! Keep up the great work!!😊😊🐶🐶

I volunteer at an animal shelter in San Angelo, TX called "Concho Valley PAWS". The shelter is currently over capacity and doing its best to care for over 300 animals with only a handful of staff and volunteers. If you're looking for a dog that desperately needs a home, some of these pups have been here for years, and there are always new arrivals. We do what we can, but the shelter so badly needs volunteers, donations, and forever homes for the animals. Thank you Lee for bringing attention to the TX dog problem. Whoever reads this, if you're currently looking and ready to take on the responsibility, please come take home some of these magnificent pets. I walk them daily and can personally vouch that these furry dudes deserve all the love. Breaks my heart to see them wait so long.
