This was the time when JAT was a world-wide renown airline. Not so much for its quality, but more for its dimention and global position as a Non-alligned airliner flying to 5 continents and linking the East and the West. Frequent presence in all major airports, it was a curiosity for many to see a developed modern airliner from a socialist coutry (despite Yugoslavia not belonging to Soviet allies. In my opinion, if Yugoslavia survived the 1990s and had undergone a normal transition, it would have had even biggest potential because it had a pretty vast market that included Yugoslav emigration, foreign turists travelling to Yugoslavia, and domestic turists travelling abroad. However, besides these, it could have also take advantage of the geographical position of Yugoslavia and become a major airliner in linking differente points of the globe. Unfortunatelly sanctions put JAT K.O. and Turkish Airlines took its place, took full advantage of it, and became what they are nowadays. I think no one till now ever made this connection of JAT take down and Turkish rise up, please exyuaviation, feel free to explore this idea cause is certainly correct.
