The fluid in Josh's chest is probably from atelectasis, which is a partial collapse of a lung. This is a side effect of anesthesia and common after surgery.

if he's having trouble breathing, feeling pain etc. definitely see a doctor for this!! & another note: swelling is common after surgery (normal - will go away slowly, it's just a sign that the body is healing, sending immune-cells etc. to where they are needed); the fluid build up can also be common but these usually form at/near the surgical incision (could be lymphedema or seroma). It shouldn't be anything to worry about IF it is not accompanied with pain or shortness of breath/lack of range of motion etc., I would however keep track of any changes even if those symptoms don't present themselves & the fluid-build up persists & speak/CONSULT to ur doctor/nurse about it.

It could just be a normal inflammatory response from the trauma. Swelling happens, it's normal, and it's part of the healing process. If he had atelectasis, his breathing could present as shallow or labored or both to say the least; a collapsed or partially collapsed lung can significantly reduce his ability to breathe effectively, which then can lead to hypoxia (a lack of adequate oxygen) and that would affect the rest of his bodily functions. He would know if something was wrong with his lungs, especially after a work out: he'd be able to feel it.
