This was a quick and somewhat incomplete overview of what was one of most intriguing and thrilling times in Serbian history. Credit to the maker for courage to meet with some of the underground men. The war, crime, gangs, politics, assassination's make for a very intoxicating watch. There is a show now called "Sablja" which portrays the assassination's of Djindjic, and there is a now classic documentary called "Vidimo se u citulji", about Belgrade's underground during 90's. And finally, "Jedinica" or "JSO - Jedinica za specijalne operacije" documentary, or Unit for Special Operations, which shows the unit Legija led during this time. To me, all of this is fascinating as I lived in Belgrade during this time. It makes for an amazing book or series, if someone ever comes to that. It will match the Godfather Trilogies in events, characters and drama. As for the Serbs and what kind of people they are, I read the comments and people are on the spot. West had to label Serbs as bad guys, despite crimes committed on all sides. Serbs are portrayed as bad as Russians, and only because they like to live the way they want to, which is free. For anyone who ever met or visited Serbia or its' territories, they know how safe the land is and how welcoming and generous the people are. Serbs are proud, strong and independent people, and can be pretty mean when threatened or attacked. Respect is number one thing and has the highest regard in Serbian culture. Serbs will always stand by you in trouble and will always help their brothers no matter who they are and what trouble they are in. Serb coat of arms and moto is "Samo Sloga Srbina Spasava", 4S's on the cross (Only Unity Saves the Serbs). Many tried to conquer Serbia and have not succeeded. These include the Romans, Austro-Hungarian Empire, Ottoman Empire, Nazis and in current time NATO. All failed. The only people that can destroy Serbs are themselves, hence the slogan on the flag. I think Putin recently said it right: "You can annihilate Serbs, but you can not conquer them". Unfortunately, Serbs have never had a good leader (that was not shot) and will never be able to rise to the level that they can realize their potential. They are stubborn, unruly and disobedient mixed with a lot of muscaline energy and bravado, not the best, but certainly a unique combination. This has been and continues to be a blessing and a curse. Having a Serb as a friend is worth more than any other nationals - You have a brother who will die for you if need be. See if English-man or any other national would do the same. Zivjela SRBIJA!!!

Nothing happens in a vacuum - everything has its causation! Serbia became an independent country during the civil war(s) in the '90s. That civil war was instigated by the west, which have destroyed Yugoslavian economy and turning the entire country into the chaotic pile of rubble. That war and subsequent sanctions on Serbia gave rise to various mafia groups, black-marketing, weapons and drugs smuggling. It was the struggle for basic survival and everyone tried the best way they can to make a living and avoid starvation!

Arkan died just as he lived - evidence that there is justice in this world, however crude it may be. From the time that Serbia won its independence from the Ottoman Empire in the 1870’s the Serbs have always thought that they have the right to dominate and subjugate the other southern Slavic ethnic groups - whether they be Croats, Bosniaks, Slovenes, Macedonians, or Montenegrins. And if they have to use gangsters like Arkan in order to do that they are okay with that. There are even some Serbs today who would love to reconquer Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, and Montenegro. May their plans fail miserably.

Vast majority of the Red Star fans didn't support Milosevic, in fact his support came from basically a portion of the elderly people that kept voting for him and if not for all the wars, rigging the elections and beating protesters for about 10 years he wouldn't have stayed in power for such a long time, he was allowed to stay exactly as much as the West wanted him to and regular people in Serbia couldn't do anything about it.
