How about you name calling people and degenrating a beautiful word? What about your intrinsic hatred and biasness that shows in your statement. An ideological person cam be a worst person or the best person - it depends on the ideology. A person with an open mind, willing to learn and change their view will never be extreme of either good or bad but will be adaptive. And an individual can be all at different point in his/her life. Our beautiful culture may have produced societal flaws and bad practices due to circumstances and human limitations but whats beautiful is it has been on an auto refornative mode. Learn to differentiate between different ideologied and not draw false equivalenced coz the principles are not the same so the results differ as well.

This is Bharka at her finest. Very thoughtful questions for the most part. But one could not help notice a pro muslim slant in her political questions despite the attempt to seem even and balanced in her considerations. It would have been good to have asked what Javed ji had to say about temples still being in the control of the states like it has been from the time of the British in india, and unlike it is for the minority faiths Islam and Christianity in this country. Would he see this as normal or an aberration? Perhaps in a future talk this could be brought up Bharka ?? It was such a pleasure listening to Javed ji. What surprises me is how thoughtful and sensitive he is despite being a self proclaimed atheist. When considered deeply enough atheism is the other side of theism. While the atheist dares to throw out the baby (God) he retains the bathwater - self reflection, remorse, fellow feeling and a heightened sense of ethics. When taken to its extreme atheism can also become a form of religion with its own belief systems and agenda. Thankfully he is not in the same camp as Richard Dawkins and his tiresome ilk who can be as dogmatic and evangelical about atheism as the best or worst of Christian or other religious missionaries !! In the end, believing in a God or not are just points of view, only opposite and as valid or invalid as each other. How one lives ( or chooses to live) the life given to him (the script as Javed ji calls it) is what matters. His life is a shining example of this. Somebody said that a true atheist does not need god because he has found him/it in himself and humanity ..

As far as namaz is concerned, just taking some part of road for a few minutes at a congressional prayer shouldn't be an issue, whether its for muslim or Hindu gathering. The whole road was not blocked. Javed akhtar knows this was jummah prayer, but chose to do a both sided argument, seeking relevance.
