The crossover (impulse step) is important to set up for the javelin throw. In this video I focus on the timing and sequence of the delivery phase of the javelin throw.

Great explanation and a good throw. For the left hand, I like the analogy of the seteering wheel of a truck

Bringing down the left arm to 7oclock is simply the best. Sliding is another which I have never done before. Thank you for your educational video Coach. Greetings from maxx greater in north borneo.

Thank you, very useful. The sequence goes so fast in javelin, sometimes it's hard to decompose the movement without an explanation.

Agreed. It’s hard to drill it out as well. Hopefully this helps someone. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Very appreciated!!

The left arm dropping to a throwers side as a initial movement can be counter productive as it draws the head to tip as well
@coachhalley
@coachhalley Жыл бұрын
The sequence is fast but the left arm can’t be in the way of the strike. It also can’t be down at the side too early. Timing is key.

Thanks for your videos. It definitely helps me understand the sequence of the throw. As the speed of the move increases do your stay lower or reach out more in the last two steps?
@coachhalley
@coachhalley 7 ай бұрын
I look for an increased range of motion but I try to keep accelerating. Reaching too far can some times slow the last step into the block. Being low can help and hurt depending on if it slows you down in the process. I think the key is acceleration.

I am a senior (like old-person, not H.S.) and am just starting to throw. The mechanics are really hard for me even though I THOUGHT I was coordinated. What would you suggest in terms of stepping instead of the "faster" approach-which I may not be able to do (?). Great video. Played it many times.....

Depending on your physical capabilities, you may be able to improve mobility with practice/exercise/etc. The approach can help build more speed than a standing throw but only if you are setup to produce a throw. I work with masters throwers and mobility is normally the hardest to work on. Technique does take effort but doing things like working out, yoga or cardio may not be as much fun. Sometimes you just have to adjust your technique based on your physical capabilities. The great thing is that everyone can get better at just about anything given enough consistent effort. More resources on my website too (www.CoachHalley.com). My online javelin course is focused on technique if you want to get more efficient.

My grandson is about to turn 14 and he has a great throwing arm. He starts track in less than a month. He wants to try javelin throwing. I want to get him a javelin to practice with before the season starts. I'm looking at a 600g javelin. Should I get a steel tip or rubber tip and is there anything else I should purchase to help him get started.

Depending on the state you live in will determine the type of javelin tip. If they are just practicing, a Finnflier or Ghostjav would be great for training. They cost less, weigh less and provide a really good opportunity for skill development. For other stuff to get, athletic cones, javelin shoes and maybe a weighted javelin ball.

Sir I find that the javelin hits my back. Do you know any solutions ?

I’m guessing it’s a combination of a low throwing hand and a bent wrist. My next video will talk about this very thing. Here’s a preview: How to throw the javelin farther - Control the javelin flight kzbin.info/www/bejne/omWaYX2Xp56Ff7M

how do I switch from a less stiff javelin to a more stiff javelin?

Throw with less aggression and work on being a relaxed and efficient thrower. Practice throwing through the point with healthy technique and gradually add more speed.

only half the throw... why? Block is a myth it only works for booster the hip rotation and fasten the chest stretch(faster stretch fast reflex reaction) ... but then, delivery must continue, must use front toes as the last axis and rise heel to input 2d impulse to the chest while it still reacting on the stretch reflex... this way you maximize the drag and the last push through the best delivery angle... not doing this half throw is losing 10-15m and stay at low 80m... good luck folks!!! Block is not a stop! Pull down front leg please!!! Get you lift, use body like a sling and not a catapult!!!!
