I love watching boxing videos, and then looking at all the people who paid big money to sit ringside, and seeing the 2, 3, 4 or five of them in different fights who are looking at their phone at the time of the knockout, and paid all that money to miss a moment that is historical. Happens to a few every way video I watch. But then you know they tell their friends, I was there, ringside… When that happened. Humans are hilarious.

@@scottclark7592In the past, there was little financial reason for American fighters to go overseas except to win a title, so the majority of major fights took place in America. The boxing industry in the US was really crooked back then and hopefully is cleaner now.

For those wondering what happened to Pirog, he wa next scheduled to fight GGG but had to pull out due to a back injury during training. The back injury turned out to be worse than they first imagined and despite several attempts to return, the injury kept Pirog out of the ring for good. Last I checked he was forced to retire due to the injury and went into politics.

i think the narrator said that to make it seem more dramatic. because he also said he needed a knockout. in the fifth round, of a 12 round bout. why would he need a knockout? he had plenty of time to catch up if he was behind, which i doubt. but then of course, we arent watching the entire fight, this video is only showing Pirog's highlights and not his opponent's

Pirog was a prodigy well on his way to greatness when he suffered his injury. Definitely would have been a HOF boxer. Unfortunate his injury came right before the golovkin fight. Would have been an instant classic

What a savage man turned up out of somewhere in the middle of Russia expected to be fodder and humiliated by a young hungry American . His technique was very different and his reach was a real problem from the first bell. Not many boxers have this style of fighting in todays game almost classic Russian style very light on the feet wide variety of combos

The COMPU-BOX punch stats for that fight were as follows : Jabs... Jacobs landed 22 out of 156 ...Pirog 16/114 Power punches... Jacobs 51/120 Pirog 27/127 .......Total punches....Jacobs 73 out of 276 Pirog 43 out of 241 . That's why Jacobs won 3 of the 4 completed rounds, he was landing more punches, around 40% more punches landed than Pirog so Jacobs was certainly ahead as the judges correctly scored it, but Pirog's right hand was the final judge.

I remember seeing this fight back 14 years ago. I never heard of this Russian fighter, but soon as I saw him use the Philly Shell and dodge Jacob’s punches, I knew this was gonna be a great fight.

A lot of these top Russian fighters have 300-400 amateur fights so are very well seasoned by the time of their pro careers. Therefore, they only need a dozen or so pro fights to get used to the paid game.

Pirog has an unusual move where he applies pressure stepping forward throwing a punch with each step, and alternating southpaw and orthodox with each step. That's what he did in the knockout sequence. It's a weird move that confused Jacobs.
