I spent a month on the Florida Keys in 1976, from the UK, aged 21, just camping. It was sad to see the quayside butchery, just because of this film.

Just seeing the exact areas where the film was shot some 47 years ago feels like stepping through a time machine. And seeing what has changed, and what has remained the same in so many years is just so breathe taking and riveting. Just like the movie itself, it touches on the humanity of those characters because the acting was done so well. You feel their life and humanity throughout the film, and seeing the exact areas where it was shot and what it is today brings the same message of life and humanity. How former "Great Harbor" was renamed by "Gov. Thomas Mayhew", my x-great grandfather many times over , to "Edgartown", said to be the only Edgartown in the world: as religious and political divisions in England widened prior to the Civil War in 1642, the Lord of the Manor of Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and the Elizabeth Islands decided to name his county town in honor of the newborn son of James, younger bro of king Charles ll. It was intended to be a reminder to James when monarch, and later, of grown-up Edgar, of the presence of loyalty from this corner of the pioneer English New World. Unfortunately baby Edgar did not live long, and it would have seemed negatively opportunistic to change the name of the town.

The stuntman in the cage during those scenes was Dick Warlock. Long time stuntman for Kurt Russell. He also played Michael Meyers in Halloween 2.

I met Warlock at a horror movie convention a few years ago. He was an unusually nice guy! Carl Gottlieb, the screen writer for Jaws was there as well and again, he was an extremely nice man. Both were willing to talk to fans and share stories.

Loved this so much....my husband and I did this a few years ago-but to a much smaller degree than you have done-thank you so much for your extra time showing previous shots from the movie to today’s look!! It’s a such a magical place anyway-we enjoyed taking the a “Chappy” ferry-but like you, couldn’t really get a way to some of the spots we wanted to go to there-I also wanted to go to the bridge where Ted Kennedy drove off of with Mary Jo K!! Thanks again-really enjoyed this!

You did an amazing job on this! Vicariously I was getting the same feels you were expressing. I have to compliment the format of transitioning between movie and current locations. Plus, the split screen, which is my personal favorite. Thank you for sharing your experience. This is one of my favorite movies of all time and definitely left a mark on me. I can relate to your swimming pool comment. When I was like 7 or 8 years old, I could not swim alone in my own pool once it started getting dark out. haha Thanks, Mr. Spielberg.
