As a former tour guide in Chicago, and having visited a number of these sites, extraordinarily well done. What makes this film special is that it approaches geographical sense. They were from Calumet City, they open with steel mills, the bridge they jump was over the Calumet river. Their destination was the County assessor's, and they filmed in the real Cook County/City Hall building. Fun facts:The exterior of the orphanage was the Schoenhoffer brewery from late 1800's. South Shore Club (Palace Hotel exterior) was where the Obama's held their wedding. All the shots under the El tracks, cosmetic differences aside, are structurally the same. And the home in Cicero, the young tree behind their car has fully grown. Great!!

If anyone ever wants to do a film like this for other movies - they should start by watching this one because this is the gold standard. This is beyond fantastic - everything from the lack of voice over to appropriate music in the background to some unbelievable camera work and editing.

I’m a lifelong Chicagoan, and this movie was my favorite growing up. There was a lot of talk about it locally as it was being filmed. Love the attention to detail in this scene by scene comparison, down to the same camera angles and movement. I noticed signs that the present day footage was taken very recently as well. And I finally know why certain scenes always felt out of place to me-they were shot in Hollywood studios.

Somewhere I have a picture my dad got of the inside of the warehouse where all the old city of chicago police cars were parked before shooting the movie. There was of course a scandal around using the old cars and a deal being made for brand new replacement cars. Also the tanks in Daley plaza did major damage to the granite and there was a hubbabaloo about replacing them. Loved the video!!!

This... was simply INCREDIBLY and TASTEFULLY WELL DONE. I was intimately familiar with essentially every Chicago scene - and (gasp!) learned about ALL the California ones. Fun fact: A pastor I knew was on scene in Chicago when they filmed the 120+MPH street chase. He didn't know any details about the movie and relegated it to memory. Years later, my friend and I watched the movie with him (since it had long been our favorite) - and the story suddenly came to light! Thanks for the memories.

Nice job. Loyd's gas station was actually a long closed station, but they did completely rebuild the set station. Then they blew it up, which wasn't included in the final cut. They over did the explosion and it blew out windows in a nearby building. We lived down route 59 a ways from there back then, so that's why I remember. Ironically, at the time as a kid, I had no idea I would end up in L.A. as a Location guy for 16 years, and got to talk to some older guys who had been on that crew, and they had great stories.
@robm3063
@robm3063 23 күн бұрын
No, that guy that owned that old gas station would not let them blow it up. Where the movie gas station was there used to be an old restaurant. I lived pretty much at RT 38 and County Farm Rd. 4 miles away as the crow flies. Are windows rattled as well. I have a bunch of photos of the aftermath as I used to work at Fox Valley Mall and drove past every day. The motel at the end of the movie is at Garys Mill and Rt 38, it's still there. John went to Wheaton Central High School,

I grew up in West Chicago and always heard about the filming there and the explosion 💥 and I was told by people that it was some truck that exploded and that they later deleted that scene. I drove past that hotel a million times and later drove past it again last month when I went to go visit and had no idea it was part of the movie.. Anyway, this video and your comments filled in some blanks.. Nostalgic as hell!!!
@sferg9582
@sferg9582 17 сағат бұрын
The gas station was a built set where the old Ray Robert's Steakhouse used to be (or something like that). The truck that they blew up was a huge fireball that blew out the windows of the church across the street. My in-laws lived up the street on Gary's mill, right next door to the West Wind Motel. Too bad they deleted the blown-up gas station scene, they spent about a week there filming everything. The semi truck tanker had a mortar under the trailer and threw the trailer into the air with a ball of flame. I was able to hang around with Belushi's stunt double for a few hours while they were filming....a real cool guy.

This is a well-produced video! I like the music with the natural sound from the scenes underneath. Most of the locations look nicer now than back then with the exception of the park, someone get busy with a weedeater already. It's a shame they tore down the building that was Ray's Music Emporium. It was on my bucket list of places to visit and get a pic.

A couple sites from The Fugitive are on the South Side too. The brief scene of the thrift store was on south Commercial, and the small basement apartment Dr. Kimble rented from the Polish lady was at 90th and Houston. The "prison" was actually Ariel Academy in Hyde Park. And the scene where Tommy Lee Jones shot the other fugitive that escaped the train wreck was somewhere on south Green Bay, although those 2-flats are all gone now.

18:10: I worked in an animation studio on Hubbard street back in the 1980s. You can just see the building on the extreme left as the Blues-mobile makes a hard turn before dashing under the "El" tracks. The building, which was very tall and narrow, can also be seen in the opening credits of Risky Business. This part of Chicago which was mostly brick warehouses and print shops was called River North and other movies were shot within blocks of this moment in the film: including Backdraft, The Fugitive, Thief, Red Heat and Running Scared.

Brilliant! Have shared to many people who, like me think this is one of the best films ever.

I grew up in South Chicago. My grandfather, 2 uncles and a couple cousins worked at the South Works of US Steel. I crossed over the 95th St bridge over the Calumet River uncountable times going to my best friends, girl friends and relatives who lived on the East Side. Bought enough fish from Calumet Fishery to feed the 5000!

I grew up in Hegewisch. I used to take 41 home from downtown when the Ryan was jammed up. Down Commercial Ave (past the thrift store from The Fugitive) and then left over the bridge to Ewing. The Baptist church is right there at 91st and Burley. (the apartment Dr. Richard Kimble rented from the Polish lady is nearby too at 90th and Houston)

I took my kid to a climbing class at Steelworker's Park recently and happened upon both the church and the bridge randomly. As I passed 95th Street to go north on 41, I recognized the intersection and pulled over immediately to turn around and go over that bridge. Good to know there are Fugitive locations around, too. Watching that movie after moving to Chicago was nearly as good as watching Blues Brothers since living here. Of course I can't stop watching the latter. 😊

@@charlienyc1 Another South Side location: There's also a very brief scene in The Fugitive where they're moving the prisoners out of the building onto the bus. That building is actually Ariel Community Academy at 47th and Greenwood in Hyde Park. (Chicago Bear Otis Wilson has a cameo as a prison guard).

I used to go to Phil’s Beach as a teen and I’ve lost skin on that slide.

I went to Phil’s Beach with a girlfriend for our High School ‘Senior Ditch Day’ Spring 1978. I went crazy when I saw it in the movie just a few years later. One hell of a slide!
