I have this game. As a kid, I didn't really understand what I was supposed to do. I'd usually pull the game out every few months, play for a few minutes, and put it back. One day, I *finally* figured out what was going on. I got my power level up, took out Jaws, and it was very satisfying beating this game. There's not much too the game, but once you know what to do, it's actually not a *bad* game.

A friend of mine (the first I knew to have a NES) had this game back then. I vaguely remembered it and recently bought a copy on eBay. Within a day I've already beaten it, but it's a fun and relaxing little game. For a while I was confused what to do in the 3D scene at the end, but the manual explained it. It was also hard to tell if the "power level" thing actually did anything useful. It's weird that it only helps against Jaws, and otherwise just makes the game harder. It seems like the ideal is around level 3 or 4. Whenever I've made it to level 5 I start having way too much trouble with the jellyfish, and with my guy swimming around too fast. I'm not sure this game was that disliked in the 80s, other than just being too short and shallow to hold people's interest. But it was one of those games that became popular to bash in the early internet and youtube-era. I don't see how anybody who owned this game in the 80s with the manual would have been that confused. Not everything in the game is immediately clear but there's not much to it, and the manual explains it succinctly. This game isn't bad, but I think it had unrealized potential. If it had more depth and randomization to it, it could have been an early "rogue-like" with a lot more replay value. But this is an earlier game and it fits for 1987. I find that I have more nostalgia for games from that period, when the NES was just starting to get popular, so I got what I bargained for. I really like the sound in this game. It's nothing real special, but it just exemplifies the way I remember NES games sounding. It's very pleasant and.. happy.

This game only started to get hate due to avgn and all those hack comedy game reviewers and being LJN game made it an easy target since they did have bad games but they also had a lot fun good games that sadly get lumped with the bad

There *SORTA* was a fifth Jaws movie-Cruel Jaws. But really it was a totally separate movie that was itself made up with a bunch of rehashed footage from other shark movies. And it was only released as "Cruel Jaws" or "Jaws 5" overseas. I don't believe it even got a theatrical run in the US.

Very Cool commentary also liked the Friday the 13th one as well. To answer your question the black balls are suppose to be depth chargers. As for Jaws Jr. the baby shark in JAWS 3-D dies of suffocation before they blow up mom. Ironically if ya read the novelizations Jaws 2 was a female shark that gave birth to several offspring and ONE of the offspring actually survives and swims away from Amity area and in the novelization of Jaws the Revenge the same offspring that survived returns to pick up the damage his parents left off on.

Hey Lord Kayoss, I love your video playthroughs. They are very entertaining. By the way the black balls that drop from the plane and the submarine I believe are called depth charges, but I'm not 100 percent positive on that
@lordkayoss3 жыл бұрын
I got a look at the manual some time later and they are simply referred to as "bombs". But, I agree that depth charges would be more logical. Glad you enjoy the videos! 🍻

Fun fact: If you play Jaws in a save-state capacity and are trying to successfully hit every jellyfish in each bonus stage, it's not long before it is literally impossible to get a perfect. The game wasn't tested thoroughly enough to catch that flaw.
