Another thing too is that Serles heavily implies, if not out states as fact that the shark from Jaws 2 was the mate from the first one. And that the 4th shark was also an off spring from Jaws 2

I think Shark 1 has impregnated Shark 2 by the time of the J2 book, she's driven by the ravening hunger of carrying shark babies throughout that book, and manages to drop them just before that cable sizzles her, thus leaving it open to multiple sequels (I wonder if Searle regretted that!)

I own paperbacks of Jaws 2 and Jaws the Revenge by Hank Searls I'll be honest I never read Jaws the Revenge but when I was in my teens I read Jaws 2 over and over. I love reading from the point of view of the mother shark. I also like the seal that keeps escaping the shark. Very entertaining. Great review.

I’m a fan of the second Jaws film, probably because I was the right age when I saw it on television. I meant to get to the novelization for GarbAugust, but life got in the way. Now I need to add it to my TBR again.

Novel of 2 is pretty good, I think... much prefer it to the film anyhow

2 is underrated but if I was the director I would have focused Less on the kids

BTW, describing Jaws: The Revenge as "a landmark in shitty films" is astonishingly accurate.

That's on the basis of never having watched the entire thing! I've tried twice, ten minutes was about my limit!

@@bertsbooks2505 the actors do their best, but they have nothing to work with. To be completely fair, this movie was fast tracked by the studio, and it shows in the worst possible way how rushed this whole thing is, right down to the ridiculous premise.

There's one thing that doesn't add up to me about Revenge's novelization: is Papa Jacques responsible for the actions of the third shark or did he also curse the two sharks of the previous two books?
@bertsbooks2505 Жыл бұрын
I suspect he cursed that third film, particularly the effects team!

Jaws: The Revenge was actually marketed by Universal as the conclusion to the Jaws trilogy, meaning Universal doesn’t see Jaws 3 as existing in the franchise. I guess they were too embarrassed by it, which they should as it’s very bad and relies too much on 3D at times instead of anything interesting happening in the story or character development that would help garner more interest in the major characters in the film. Jaws: The Revenge is a film I see as being so bad it’s good. I enjoy it as I always find it to be entertaining anytime I’ve watched it, despite its shortcomings, whereas I find Jaws 3 to be quite boring. If it wasn’t for Louis Gossett, Jr. I probably wouldn’t have kept watching it. Plus, Michael Caine being in Jaws: The Revenge is nice to see. He’s a real saving grace with that film. When he made that film he says, he got to take a paid vacation to the Bahamas, finish building a great house with the money he made from the film and won an Academy Award for Hannah and Her Sisters, so it wasn’t bad for him to be in a flop. That’s a great attitude to have for being in a bad film he’s never seen.

I think I quite liked the first 3 movies and owned the first two books though I have only retained Benchley's original into my old age. It's a great book (and so is the deep!). I don't recall enjoying Searl's novelisation anything like as much. Still waiting for the Jaws 19 novelisation though. It's overdue by a few years now.

The novel of Jaws 2 is indeed a terrific read, and beautifully written. Far superior to the film. Jaws The Revenge is a movie so bad it makes you wish you were dead. Searls does his best to make the plot more coherent, but not even Stephen King could have made this premise work.
