Great video. We have a historic, scenic railway in my neck of Upstate NY complete with vintage engines and passenger cars from various railroads. Glad you documented Big South Fork. The poster was right - you’re a national treasure my friend! Thanks, Jaw Tooth.

Thank you for bringing the Big South Fork Scenic Railway to our attention, Jaw Tooth. The waiting room at the depot in Stearns, Kentucky was a neat looking place. The ride on the train was an interesting journey. The scenery was beautiful. It was nice that you had a two hour layover at Barthel, Kentucky to be explore the area on your own or just take it easy before the train returned to Stearns, Kentucky.

Awesome video Jawtooth! I first rode the South Fork Railroad in 1984 when I was on my honeymoon, hard to believe its been almost 40 years ago! It had open cars back then I've rode it every couple years since, been about 5 years since I rode it last, went down there about 3 years ago and flooding had compromised the tracks and they had shortened the ride so I just drove down to Blue Herron mine. Hopefully they will get it back to the full ride again someday! Thanks for sharing Jawtooth!

AWESOME! First rode that train about 47 years ago as a kid when we would go to Lake Cumberland for vacation! Planning a family reunion trip to the Big South Fork RR! Also, just turned 55 today! Was in carlisle tonight for work and got a birrhday present from CSX and NS at the croasings on the main drag west of Dairy Queen. I was able to get a twilight video of the southbound CSX train "knocking down the signal"! Also had a DPU in the middle of what you would call EMPTYING THE YARD 🤣 Right after that I was leaving the area and crossed the NS track and saw a green over red signal. I was able to video that one as well, but it was only a 12 car train. Also I used quite a few Jaw Tooth terminology in my videos! 🤣 You are truly the best! My wife even enjoys watching you and "kids" at the end of the videos 😁

Mimosa tree blooming in the shot from the bridge. Didn’t think they grew up there. They’re all over down here. Nice views on this little ride. The engine reminds of one that was used for years to switch cars at the paper mill I worked at from ‘76 - ‘99. I believe it was a little older. Thanks for the ride along JT!

In Toronto Canada there is a great place you would love. It's called the steam whistle brewery. Built on an old round house still with a working table. The have a miniature train and actually restore old trains in the roundhouse

Looks like both a fun and educational trip where you go through some rugged scenery that hasn't changed much in over 100 years. Nice waiting room and some interesting home built cars and a modern shop. I see the Alco sitting on the sidelines plus a small Plymouth for the work train. One can imagine the yard brimming with coal hoppers many weighed one ar a time on that classic manual scale. Nice older concrete bridge where you got the photo but sadly no good pedestrian walkway and within a few years the trees will have formed a tunnel. I certainly hope their passenger count went up since your visit as that trip didn't pay for itself. Besides the llcation transformation your shirt also did. Hope this worthwhile destination hangs in there

Our Mikado Steam Locomotive, SPX-745, was rebuilt to pull a museum train around Louisiana and Mississippi to celebrate the Bi Centennial of the Louisiana Purchase and the Louis and Clark Expedition. One of the two Engineer / Fireman we hired to operate the Steam Locomotive was from the Big South Fork Scenic Railroad.

Awesome. What a beautiful place, In 1980 we took a big family trip, that took us from NJ to Michigan, up to the UP of Michigan, into Ontario, and then east on Highway 17 to a place in the 1000 Islands District in NY where we crossed into NY State and went back to NJ. So as part of that trip we rode an amazing scenic railroad in Canada. It was called the Algoma Central Railway. It took us 100 miles north to Agawa Canyon Park. Then after staying there for a few hours, it took us back to the starting point. I recommend it, assuming it still runs.

We used to have a line like this here in Ion/Metaline Falls Washington for years by the Lyons club. Closed it down not because of no guests but because of a lack of volunteers. They used the train in the opening scene of the 1993 movie Benny and Joon. Tracks and areas were used in the film The Postman too. Most of that movie was filmed here in Spokane. Check them out.
