I'm a believer for years, and I believe NONE of us have the whole truth, but as far as I'm concerned I understand where Jay Bakker is coming from. He's right in many ways but also damage by his upbringing. IVE been damaged myself in many ways but this is why we need to lean on the Lord Jesus Christ. We are put here to love and be loved. I respect this man very much. Such an open and honest discussion about his family, beliefs, and background. As a conservative evangelical Christian myself, I don’t agree with everything he says , but I believe he has more more honesty and integrity than what I see from many conservative and progressive Christians today. There is too much “do as I say, not as I do”, along with a lust for power internally in our churches and on the political stage today. There is not enough focus on Jesus, our own integrity and honesty that should come from our Faith, while identifying and fighting against our owns sins of hypocrisy. Just look at our current president’s (Trump) lack or morals and values. Adultery, lying, immoral behavior, and yet a majority of conservative Christians have compromised their own values to support such a person. Yet, the same people who now support Trump were irate, and rightfully so, when Clinton had his affairs and lied. My Pastor always talks about the great falling away before the Jesus’ second coming, and I believe that this happening today. Too many people who say they are Believers, yet through their actions and words, they have fallen away and their faith has been compromised by the enemy.

I understand exactly where he is. I grew up in the same type of culture and denomination, and I'm still deconstructing that dysfunctional foundation many years later. I, however, I am very sure of my faith in Jesus Christ, God's son, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I'm no longer wavering on these points. God bless Jay...he's been through so much!

Now looking back 40 yrs or so...we (Jay, you and me)are a by product of of our parents and people around us growing up, however not by any fault of ours did we know how to deal with the backlash we had to endure as a child or preteen. One thing I know is that no one is perfect. Beware of anyone who has all the answers, and has the voice of angel, if love, compassion, grace and forgiveness is not there then you know their agenda is for only for themselves. I pray that Jay will listen to the spirit within him. Keep asking questions, and he will be heard and led by the holy spirit and the true of Jesus.

@@jeanettesilhouette5678 We are out here in great abundance. Fundamentalist types are great at shutting down dialogue, intolerant of an conflicting view. I find faith to be deeply personal, have grown to accept that no one has all of the answers, and it's human to wonder about the possibilities. I reject much of what I was taught growing up, without rejecting their good intentions. I think it's so much easier for those who sign on to the package deal of religion. I have found a church community that is involved in community service. Find a church group that is feeding the hungry, helping people in real ways. Most cities have such churches. If the focus is on helping people, rather than fundraising, you'll find a community of like minded people. Steer clear of the evangelical churches, they are invested in wearing you down.

This is a brilliant young man. I can remember growing up a scripture being used to discourage interracial marriage. The "be not thou unevenly yoked" verse. It wasn't until way later in life that I was taught it means to align yourself with people who share similar beliefs with you. It's absolutely insane some of the control tactics I witnessed in the southern Baptist church during the 1970s and early 80s.

My mom is the most faithful person I know but if she doesn't understand something, she admits it. That's humility and I respect that. One of the best discussions on Christianity I've ever heard. Larry mentioned what Billy Graham told him. That was an eye opener, as I respect Billy Graham. Jay was correct on the birthday of Jesus. It was not in December, his conception was, giving Christ a 9 month gestation and birth in September, and clarifying that life begins at CONCEPTION. Also references to it being harvest time at his birth would be end of summer, September. Anyway, this interview is great for awareness and if I was a preacher I would show this interview to my flock for discussion. It would be a great platform to start the learning by bringing out the Strongs Concordance and translate back on your own through the 7 languages before it was translated to English. To see the other interpretations and available words that could also be used is the way to decifering many true possible meanings of scripture. Translate for yourself and you will see what I mean. Get a concordance. Learn, don't just believe what your preacher says.

The whole Christmas celebration is not even biblical, there is nothing in the Bible that tells us to celebrate the birth of christ. Making amends where possible, makes me whole again with the Lord. I think a lot of Christians hide behind scripture. You have to walk the talk. Interestingly, I do know some non-Christians that lead a more righteous life than some of the Christians I know. I do not accept that a good and kind person, who leads a righteous life would be penalized with eternal Damnation. Belief otherwise seems very ego driven. God loves all of his children equally. If the man is selflessly helping others, I suspect he will be well received when his time comes. I have known atheists and agnostics who were kind, trustworthy and helpful. Religious beliefs and participation are not reliable predictors of a person's character. I find that I would trust Jay Bakker, before I would trust his con running parents. Jay is interesting. This poor guy is sadly so mixed up. The Bible is God’s Word. This does not mean a real Christian does not hate any body, but rather loves their enemies. God is able to change a person’s heart, and make then a new creature. Jay is sadly lacking the reality of reassurance no matter what or how people live or react. As a person who sees Christianity, and religion in general, for what it really is, I absolutely LOVE interviews like this posted here on the KZbin’s, they reveal (especially this dude and this video) Christianity for what it really is BUT NOT Because of anything Bakker Jr. says in the video, but by the comments from all the so called “Christians” on this here thread. Give a “Christian” a chance to comment on a video like this one and they will ALWAYS reveal themselves for who they actually are. Christianity has to be one the most ironic ideologies ever created due to the nature of what the teachings of Jesus actually are versus the way jesus’ followers interpret/pervert them and use them to do the exact opposite of what he says. THE WORST, most hypocritical, immoral, and unethical people I’ve ever met in my 43 years here on this earth have called themselves Christians. Many will fall away from the Faith in the final days, scripture foretells. “Religion” is Man in search of god. You have issues with the “institutional” church, understandably.
