And, as it relates to Laettner's game-winner against Kentucky, the same can and should be said of Tyus Edney's game-winner against Missouri 3 years on. If either of those shots do not go in, both teams are eliminated, and the course of NCAA Final Four history is altered forever. That wasn't the case yesterday when Suggs took that shot. I agree this game was the best game since Kentucky vs Duke in 1992. As Bilas said, this was the highest level of college basketball played by BOTH teams. Both shot over 58% from the floor. Both single digits in turnovers. My question is this: if Gonzaga loses to Baylor Monday, does this game get diminished? Think about the 2016 warriors and 2007 patriots before answering. I think it does. Because if you say "do you remember that iconic game between Gonzaga and UCLA?" Then the next guy will reply "yep and then I remembered they choked and lost their perfect season in the final too"

Here's why it's not up there with Laettner's, because what happens if Suggs misses the shot? Nothing, they just go to another OT. Laettner's was a win or lose proposition. Suggs shot definitely has some things going for it, in the Final Four, preserving the undefeated season, but the stakes are balanced if it's a tie game rather than a deficit.

People are forgetting that before Laettner took the shot, Hill had to get him the ball from 3/4 length of the court with a baseball pass. Not only did Laettner catch it, fake left and do turnaround jumper with a hand in his face, they were losing and had less time (2.1 seconds) than Suggs driving the court off a regular inbound pass. While this is up there, not the same as Laettner’s.

"A controversial charge call with one second remaining in regulation had UCLA fans furious at Lucas Oil Stadium. Bruins Johnny Juzang was driving to the lane with the score tied at 81 and appeared to draw contact from Gonzaga defenders, but Drew Timme drew a charge call." I saw the play from different screen angles. Johnny went to his left around Drew. In one frame you can see both Johnny's shoulders and the ball past Drew. Drew looked like he put his hand on Johnny's right shoulder and pushed off to make it look like he was pushed. Tough call for the refs.. Any given day the call or score could have gone a different way. I have coached many sports for many years. Know you guys are winners. But more important you did your best. Nope. As great as it was, a miss resulted in an overtime. Laettner’s was to win or lose, advance or go home. More pressure. Also, as far as the shot itself, Laettner had to catch the ball in traffic, turn and shoot in pretty much one motion. Degree of difficulty was higher. Suggs’ shot was longer but he was facing basket dead on with momentum going his way. Had they been down 1 or 2, it would be probably the greatest shot in tournament history, being the final four and all. Also, the play itself was harder to pull off. Grant Hill’s pass is one of the most underrated plays in college basketball history. He had to throw a Brady worthy pass with a roundball right on target just to give them a chance. Just my humble opinion. Both great shots that don’t require comparison or ranking, but Bilas started it lol
