Dantonio is the best coach in program history for MSU. He has the most wins in program history and had a clear love for the university much akin to Tom Izzo’s. A lot of people who criticize Coach D feel like they’re fair weather fans (who seem all too common in EL) and don’t remember just how bad we were under Williams and Smith. His final years were tumultuous to say the least and they left the program in a funky spot but what he was able to do for us at his peak was borderline unimaginable.

2010 TCU should’ve been mentioned. Perfect 13-0 season. Capped off with a win against #4 Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl, and finished #2 in the Country. Not bad for a team from the Mountain West.

The thing is, thanks in large part to their non-conference win against Oregon, I'm almost sure that the BCS computers would have still had LSU ranked ahead of Arkansas and Alabama. I hesitate to say "still #1", though, because due to the Big 12's 27-3 non-conference record (and one of those three losses belonging to Kansas who lacked a single conference win), the computers were *insanely* high on the entire Big 12; 7-5 was good enough to be actually ranked and even 6-6 would get some computers putting you in the top 25. So Oklahoma State would've been #1 with the computers. But LSU probably would've been #2 with them, even as the humans who put emphasis on _when_ you lost would've had Arkansas and Alabama as the top 2. And yes, you're absolutely right. Florida got robbed in 2012. Even *after* Bama beat Georgia, the computers wanted the Gators to take on ND; three weeks earlier when K-State and Oregon were both still undefeated and Florida didn't yet have their win against eventual ACC Champ FSU, the computers had them third, ahead of Oregon. You could honestly say that if South Carolina had managed to find 3 extra points against LSU to force the three-way tie, Florida is in the CCG easy (Georgia's SOS was trash in comparison to UF's and USC's) and probably gets into the natty.

As an MSU fan, Dantonio is definitely the best coach in school history. I have faith that Smith will bring back that culture of good fundamentals and complementary football. @@Amateurloree 2 of those top 15 teams finished the season unranked, the other 2 had 1 top 15 win combined. I’ll agree they weren’t ass, that’s hyperbole. But, they were ridiculously overrated. The week they were ranked #3 there were really like 4 teams ranked lower than them who probably should’ve been ranked higher. It seemed like they kept them ranked that high so when they lost to LSU they could keep them in the top 10, which fed the argument that the sec was so much stronger than every other conference that Alabama and LSU should just rematch for the national championship. So you had 3 teams who were all 11-1 and one team that was 13-0, and naturally they picked the only 11-1 team that had already played the 13-0 team. People talk about what forced the NCAAs hand on making a playoff, this season was it. The other 11-1 teams #3 and #4 Stanford and Oklahoma State played each other in the Fiesta Bowl which ended up being a game that was 1,000x more exciting than watching either of the Alabama vs LSU games that year which ended up going 7 quarters with 10 field goals before Trent Richardson finally scored a touchdown to seal a national championship that never should’ve been played.
