I think what happened is that Jay really liked the chord progression in the MSN part of the song, and because the song was out of date, decided to reuse it in a more up-to-date song. And it fits quite well! :D

I think Jay mentioned at some point that he first wrote the potato song in '04 and then wrothe the procrastinator.

@@safetyinstructor Hmm, actually? I've seen countless jay foreman interviews and i cant recall hearing this anywhere. Either you're misremembering or i just havent stumbled upon jay saying this, but in the early gigs there wasnt any potato song so there's no definitive proof thats correct unless you remember where you heard it from. Thanks for sharing tho, if you can provide a source that very well may be true, although it is unlikely

I never knew that, thats really cool! In my original comment i was just speculating about what the same chord progression could possibly mean. I guess the potato song wouldnt work in stuff like Woodstock just because of how far away the audience is, and i guess he needed a chord progression for the procrastinator so he just ripped off of the potato song. i've never heard this version before! and I strange coincidence of how I got here: I happened to want to listen to this song, and went to the only version online that I knew of: the Musical Comedy Awards 2009 performance, read everysingle comment, and landed on one that took me here. Little did I know that this video was posted today, and that comment made only 8 hours ago. yes, fate works in strange ways

Yeah , this one is really rare, i thought that the musical comedy awards version was the only one for a while too, but then i stumbled across a random sample somewhere from 2005, and ending up actually finding a full recorded version. Im glad you enjoyed it :D

Nope, that part actually did not exist in the original version. From what i can tell from live performances and other sources, the original procastinator was what i have uploaded here, and then sometime in 2008 (3 years after the song was written and recorded) Jay added the facebook part (which he performed at woodstock 2008 which is on my channel and on musical comedy awards 2009) in an attempt to make the song slightly more relevant and funny, before completley dropping the song at about 2010-11. So, there is literally no officially recorded version by Jay with the facebook part, only live gigs from 2008 and onward.

It's funny because you're never really doing nothing. Anything could be a learning experience, everyday you learn something new (that is if you're paying attention that is). Unfortunately no , it's all jay, although they did know each other at that time, they were at uni together! And Tom did sing in a Jay song, at woodstock 2007 , haha!
