He went from starter to back up to Super Bowl winner, then back to back up. I dont even know if he is in the League anymore. Or you look at Flacco. He was at home. He couldnt even make a team. RGIII was already a shell of himself when Jay arrived in Washington. Whist Jay was brought to Washington to get RGIII's career back on track after the injury Robert suffered under Mike Shanahan's stint with the team, it was apparent that Kirk Cousins/Colt McCoy was a better fit and could maximise the other players on the team in a way Robert could not. Jay Gruden had to deal with Dan Snyder needing RGIII to work after having given up so much to draft him. Jay Gruden realised the need to move on from Robert earlier than most after the league caught up to RGIII and clear regression/lack of success of RGIII adapting his playing style to minimise unnecessary hits. (Sam Howell was also criticised correctly for this this season) RGIII appears that he still doesn't acknowledge that despite the efforts of those around him the accountability for his lack of success in the Gruden era was not due to a lack of effort on the coaching staff nor was it not putting talented playmakers around him but ultimately it is on himself. (He had Trent Williams, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jordan Reed, etc) Robert was often critised in Washington for being 'corny,' fake or lacking introspection when it came to the teams underperformance but it is his lack of authenticity to the public that has plagued him from the beginning. Whether it be with his lack of accountability for his part in his underperformance on the field or him sneaking behind his first wife's back he has always had an authenticity problem.

While I agree with most. Next Gen stats show that Howell is not being given any favors. Pocket collapses in 2.1 seconds for a guy making his first starts... not great. He's shown he can throw the ball down field and I am sure this off-season will incorporate running through plays that get the ball out his hands Tom Brady fast.
@nathanyeo
@nathanyeo 5 ай бұрын
@@eats4cheaps305 Fair, I agree. I was more steering towards the critique of Robert has also been given to other players, who then took the coaching well. Sam had some phenomenal plays this season and made some very rare, high calibre throws in big moments. I'm excited to see his development, but wouldn't be surprised to see the new coach/GM in Washington pick a QB 2nd overall. Still a big fan of Howell and would like to see him get more opportunities to get the ball out of his hands quickly as you suggested. It was perplexing why EB didn't call more plays with that aim, or incorporated the run a little more.

And of the head coaches SINCE Dan was the owner, ONLY Marty was able to retain another HC position. Every other coach has NEVER gotten another HC job. Its not just Jay. This dysfunctional team during Dan's tenure is where coaches come to end their careers. And it doesnt help that his last name is Gruden... who's more famous brother is essentially in a legal battle against the NFL.

Ok RG3 have to answer how he ended up ruining his previous coaching staff that had Mike and Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, Matt Lafleur, Mike McDaniel, Bobby Slowik, and Raheem Morris all on staff…. Maybe they knew some things about football more than RG3

Mike and the Owner ruined that team before the 2012 Draft. IF you recall, before the then Redskins went on a 7 game winning spree; there was a war going on between owner and Head Coach; but you want to blame a 22-y/o amongst 50ish and 60ish men with power.

M Shanahan, K Shanahan, McVay, LaFluer were all in DC and all wanted Cousins in over RG3. Dan got rid of all of them because Dan wanted RG3. What bothers me the most about RG3 is that he joined the Dan hate wagon, knowing that Dan did everything to support him.

Jay Gruden with RG Me in 2014/ 4 and 12, Jay Gruden with Kirk Cousins 17-14-1 in 2015/2016. RG Me didn't do much in Cleveland or elsewhere. He never accepts responsibility for his failures-it was always someone else's fault.

Exactly. RG3 loves to blame everyone but himself. He wasn’t a good pocket passer and when he ran, he did not protect himself. There’s a reason he was a failure in Washington, Cleveland, and Baltimore and out of the league.

As a skins fan myself that remembers this... I feel like people love to pull the "look at that coaching staff how did they lose" but mcvay, kyle, lefleur, all of them were very young. Most position coaches. All went and spent time elsewhere for several years before making any waves. They were not ready during that time. Sad but true. Just seems now like they all have bad blood towards the team though. Hopefully all is forgiven, in Josh Harris we trust.

In Pat's "journalism" quest...he should be informed that MIke Shanahan was the head coach who was there when RG3 and Cousins were drafted, and the head coach (with his son Kyle as OC) when RG3 won rookie of the year, went to the playoffs, and Washington had all those future stud coaches on the staff.
