That Honda has the most beautiful exhaust note this side of Formula 1!💖💖💖

My first car was a Honda S500--same car, earlier engine. It was plenty quick and fast enough (the default speed limit in Japan at the time was about 35mph). I still dream about it.

Too bad we can't have cars like that today.

We do. I have a 2017 Honda Civic Si. 1.5-L displacement producing 205 horsepower. 0 - 60 < seven seconds. Consistent mileage between 38 -42 depending on type of driving.

Ha- the girl putting on lipstick as she passes them story! I thought I was untouchable at the speed I was at going 'round a cloverleaf in my '64 Spitfire... until I looked in my rear-view mirror to see it was completely filled up with my friend driving his Mom's station wagon.

I first saw the S600 and S800 in Okinawa in 1967 on my way to Vietnam. I tried to buy the S800 fastback, but Honda dissuaded me saying that I would be a “stand alone” with no dealers or service.

That is so honourable tho, they couldve just taken your "foreigner" money, yet they helped you choose what would be best for you at the time.

Was quite heavy so not fast all mouth no trousers but what a noise. I’d love an S800.

57 hp seems miniscule until you talk about it as nearly 100hp/liter. It would mean stock 600hp from a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8. Not bad for 2021, let alone almost 6 decades prior

I wonder how many times Jay actually gets to be a passenger in his own cars.

Is that an Austin Healey Sprite at 6:48? Jay truly has a little of everything in his collection, even the less glamorous.

Honda upsized the engine to 800cc. They eventually removed the rear chain drive on the later S800s. They were never officially imported into the USA so I believe. They were in the UK as they initially only made right hand drive cars. I recall neighbours having a hardtop S800. As a kid I always liked the short cute looks. They were cheap, but the roller bearing big ends and rear chain drive put people off buying them. They were odd as Honda were only noted for bikes.

Interesting insight. Thanks!

Also, initially only motorbike dealers sold and serviced them. So they were only expecting low sales. A bit of a put off, a bike maker making a car was not inspiring at the time as the two markets tended to have makers who only specialised in one type. The MG Midgets and Triumph Spitfires were too much competition. So much it was baffling why Honda entered the UK market. Even Fiat did not export their open tops to the UK in the 1960s. A shame because the Honda engines were very nice with a nice sound.

It looks like it's about the same size as an MG.Midget or Sprite. I had a 64 1/2 Midget in high-school with roll up windows

These two work well together on screen. I wonder some times. Does that look on Jay's face say "I'm going to kill him later", or is Jay about to burst out in laughter? Either way, it makes me laugh.

I miss the époque when cars were round, soft & smooth, like most of the chicks were. I used to call them, as She. I am 61 now. All I wish from God, is to have me back in time, in sort to, remember the good old times rolling down the boulevard. I had an 2nd hand convertible, built in England, which nobody could fix the carburation of it. Lol! Take a guess whom she was?

I once watched an "Out-Take Reel" from one of the Indiana Jones series and Harrison Ford had to do about 10 retakes of him racing past the camera on a horse. His hat blew off about 6 times in a row so he grabbed an office stapler and made like he was banging the staples into his forehead to secure the hat. Maybe Denis uses a stapler!! ;^)

What does he mean by flywheel effect
@phila38844 жыл бұрын
Most cars have a heavy flywheel, so it takes a second for the starter wind up the engine. In the Honda it spins up immediately.
