So, I was in a band in the 80's in the Jacksonville Fl. area called EXIT. We played around town at a bunch of local clubs and had a decent following. In July 1980, we played on the west side of town at a bar called Byron's, Wed through Sat, 2 - 5. Our manager was a chick that also did catering at the Coliseum down town for large shows. One night, and I don't remember which night it was, she came by with the opening band from the show she catered that night. They were young, as were we. They hung out and watched the show and drank and partied like everybody was doing. They were a band we'd never heard of before. They only had one album out, and it wasn't very good. The name of that band was Def Leppard. They were having some problems with their guitar player. A few weeks later, they made a phone call to one of our guitar players, Rob, and asked if he would be interested in auditioning for their band, to replace one of the guitar players they had. Rod said no. He's kicked his own ass every day since then. You never know who you'll run into when you're out gigging. I don't tell this story much, because most people don't believe it.

I remember when these guys first came out. The alternative crowd took them on their radio stations early on but Def was just too hard to stay in that category.

How great an album was "Pyromania"? This was the *third* single, after "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages". It didn't even crack the UK singles charts, which is really beyond comprehension. Your reaction when Steve Clark (lead guitar) lets you know what he can do was *priceless* . The Lepp have continued to be a fine band (and a strong touring act) to this day, but they definitely lost something when Clark drank himself to death in 1991. (Somebody has probably made up a hypothetical all-star band where each member died of alcohol poisoning. All I know is Clark and John Panozzo, the drummer for Styx…but you know there have to be others. Sad thought.) More Def Leppard? Let's see, you haven't done "Animal" or "Women" or "Hysteria", or "Love Bites", their only #1. And of course, there's the iconic "Photograph", the song that made them mainstream stars. I would love it if you would do the version from their 2009 concert with Taylor Swift (TS needed to break out of her country box, DL needed new fans and exposure), but I know some would consider that heresy. (Def Leppard were Taylor's mom's favorite band, which is why she picked them when she was offered a spot in the "Crossroads" concert series. It worked out well; the drummer's brother became Taylor's road manager, and since Taylor ended up breaking pretty much every tour record for a female artist, I'm sure Robert Allen made a nice piece fo change, too.) On a less-controversial note, I'd also love to see you do their cover of The Kinks' classic "Waterloo Sunset". Called "the greatest song in the history of the English language", that song has (understandably) been covered a lot of times. I love David Bowie's and Peter Gabriel's versions, but I think Leppard's is the best. JMO.

The original lineup was with guitarist Steve Clark who passed away in the early 90s. Vivian Campbell came in afterward, he's been a great addition to the band. This song is from the early 80s when Steve was still with us.

You guys did Steelheart already but you have to do their song “I’ll Never Let You Go”. You will be blown away by his vocals in that song
