Def Leppard's Pyromania album in 1983 hit like an atomic bomb. It's a true rock masterpiece. ... (Many music insiders thought it was a 'Studio Creation', that the band couldn't possibly sound this good Live. .. WRONG, they could perform these songs Live without gimmicks or lip syncing.)

I'm so jealous, I wish I could experience these classics from Def Leppard for the first time again ..but to us children of the 80s these amazing songs were an everyday occurrence. We had musical masterpieces dropped on us on a daily basis. We took it for granted and now we can only wish the new stuff was as good as this. I saw them live in '92. They rocked.

This album came out when Rock was at a low, recovering from Disco, then the British New Wave, which was full of synthesizers. Even though Van Halen was still persevering, this album was the album that pushed a lot of teenaged boys over the edge and said, "That's it, I am gonna be in a band. I'm doing this!" This album hit the reset button on Rock.

So, I was in a band in the 80's in the Jacksonville Fl. area called EXIT. We played around town at a bunch of local clubs and had a decent following. In July 1980, we played on the west side of town at a bar called Byron's, Wed through Sat, 2 - 5. Our manager was a chick that also did catering at the Coliseum down town for large shows. One night, and I don't remember which night it was, she came by with the opening band from the show she catered that night. They were young, as were we. They hung out and watched the show and drank and partied like everybody was doing. They were a band we'd never heard of before. They only had one album out, and it wasn't very good. The name of that band was Def Leppard. They were having some problems with their guitar player. A few weeks later, they made a phone call to one of our guitar players, Rob, and asked if he would be interested in auditioning for their band, to replace one of the guitar players they had. Rod said no. He's kicked his own ass every day since then. You never know who you'll run into when you're out gigging. I don't tell this story much, because most people don't believe it.

Def Leppard was and still is one of my favorite groups. I grew up listening to their music. They have gone through so much with the accident of Rick Allen and losing Steve Clark to alcohol poisoning. They stuck together and pulled through these challenges and remained a strong group. You have done some of their greatest songs. Here are some more (they have so many great hits): "Armageddon It", "Gods of War", "Rocket", "Animal", "Love and Affection", "Have You Ever Needed Someone", "Heaven Is"... so much more!

@@jamesoutlaw2043 Miss Mystery was Black'n'Blue. Great song though. I'd forgotten about it til you mentioned it and I went searching for it. Gene Simmons (KISS) managed BnB and the guitarist Tommy Thayer went on to work behind the scenes for KISS and has been their guitarist now since they returned to make-up and costumes.

You all talk about put a smile on my face, I remember listening to Def Leppard all though High School, they were my favorite band in the 80's...wore out Hysteria and Pyromania, but their truely rocking stuff was before pyromania. When you guys fall for them that's what puts a smile on my face, because I was the same way in the 80's. I looked through your Def reactions and I don't think you did Lady Strange (from High N' Dry) 1981.

I saw Def Leppard on their High n' Dry tour in 1979. They opened for Scorpions and Ted Nugent. Didn't know who they were, but after that night I knew who they were. One of the best, loudest, and rockin concerts I've ever been too. Oh the days of my youth. If you haven't done "Let it Go" yet I highly recommend that song.

How great an album was "Pyromania"? This was the *third* single, after "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages". It didn't even crack the UK singles charts, which is really beyond comprehension. Your reaction when Steve Clark (lead guitar) lets you know what he can do was *priceless* . The Lepp have continued to be a fine band (and a strong touring act) to this day, but they definitely lost something when Clark drank himself to death in 1991. (Somebody has probably made up a hypothetical all-star band where each member died of alcohol poisoning. All I know is Clark and John Panozzo, the drummer for Styx…but you know there have to be others. Sad thought.) More Def Leppard? Let's see, you haven't done "Animal" or "Women" or "Hysteria", or "Love Bites", their only #1. And of course, there's the iconic "Photograph", the song that made them mainstream stars. I would love it if you would do the version from their 2009 concert with Taylor Swift (TS needed to break out of her country box, DL needed new fans and exposure), but I know some would consider that heresy. (Def Leppard were Taylor's mom's favorite band, which is why she picked them when she was offered a spot in the "Crossroads" concert series. It worked out well; the drummer's brother became Taylor's road manager, and since Taylor ended up breaking pretty much every tour record for a female artist, I'm sure Robert Allen made a nice piece fo change, too.) On a less-controversial note, I'd also love to see you do their cover of The Kinks' classic "Waterloo Sunset". Called "the greatest song in the history of the English language", that song has (understandably) been covered a lot of times. I love David Bowie's and Peter Gabriel's versions, but I think Leppard's is the best. JMO.
