Great interview. It's refreshing to hear an interview where the person being interviewed is knowledgeable and well spoken.

Saw 30 Seconds to Mars a bunch of times and the show mixed by Jay was by far the best sounding! Jay's processing of the low end is amazing. He manages to mix a very punchy sound without it being too loud which I really appreciate.

Jay- May not remember me, but I bought your Allen & Heath gl2200. The SSL is really a far cry from that. I retired from teaching after 34 yrs, and went full time into my sound company- TSeelandSound LLC. My last festival was the Exit O Jazz Festival featuring Wynton Marsalis, Eddy Palmieri, Matthew Whitaker, and Matt Cappy. As by the talent list- I gravitate towards Jazz. My boards are all A&H, with SQ,QU and assorted analogue- including your old GL. Such a surprise to see your interview show up on my KZbin. I imagine COVID-19 has you sacked- but hang in my friend- better days are coming with the vaccinations. Take care & be safe !

Very interesting video. I have to say though, I saw QOTSA in Portland this year and it was one of the worst sounding shows I have ever been to. It seemed overly loud and almost distorted. I kinda wish I had brought some ear plugs to cut some of the noise. I wonder, how much does the arena or venue have to do with this?

Jeff Snyder Saw them twice last year. One I'm sure I suffered ear damage and the other was quiet. Still love em though

There was too much mid and it really deafened that range of my hearing for the evening. I wish there was more depth of sound he could include.

This is why the band sounds like shit this tour. It's been tweaked but their sound isn't anything like on the previous tours. Jon is barely audible, bass is too low, keys are almost non existent.
@GergActual6 жыл бұрын
vizcat I’ve seen them twice this tour and I can tell you that they sound amazing.

This is interesting stuff for a QOTSA superfan like me. Unfortunately both times I've seen them it's been at a local venue (the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St Paul) with horrible, horrible acoustics. I don't know that any combination of musicians, gear and engineers could make that place sound good.

_Wait so the guitar players still ride the bus? And the bass gets a driver in (d.i.)?_ *Not fair man!* -J/k awesome interview/explanations!- thank you:)

I just bought my qotsa ticket for Brisbane riverstage yesterday.I was aware that this is they way modern rock bands did things,but not to this extent.this engineer(or his equivalent) had better be good! josh never liked no accidents with amps....

So what's your verdict of new engineer?
@KarmicPatina6 жыл бұрын
huge fan here. the show in dallas at the toyota arena was marginal at best, from a sound perspective. not sure why, but a newer arena should sound better in my opinion. i was disappointed.

Shreds1620 I agree. This was their worst sounding tour. I really do miss Hutch. Nothing will ever top the sound achieved in their LC tour.
@dogdive6 жыл бұрын
vizcat I would definitely agree. I saw them for the LC tour as well, at an auditorium and it was infinitely better sounding.

@shreads1620 I believe this album cycle had 2 different engineers. The one in this video started with the band in April.

I realize this is a product showcase, but talking about this subject with this band and not bringing up Hutch seems odd and dare I say inappropriate. I do love hearing about the technical production aspects of Queens, so thanks for that
