🔹//DESCRIPTION\\
The video discusses the progress on building a porch deck. Jay starts by wishing the viewer a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, then admits to lying in previous videos about finishing work for the day.
Jay then describes the process of laying down the interim pieces for the deck, spacing them 16 inches on center and offsetting the joints to prevent issues. He runs into some challenges, like not having enough lumber and issues with the adhesive and nail gun.
Jay's dogs gets into a fight, causing an injury, but he decides to try putting down some of the decking anyway. He has to adjust the placement to account for the boards not being perfectly square.
Once the base is laid, Jay and Ray start framing the walls. They ensure the wall is square before sheathing it with plywood. They also wrap the exterior with house wrap.
The summary covers the key steps of laying the deck, building the walls, and preparing the structure for the next stages of construction, despite some unexpected obstacles along the way.

Not exactly sure the ultimate plan for this room. But I'm thinking you maybe should have used poly-iso under the subfloor to help insulate and protect the underside of the floor from the weather and bugs. Whatcha think?

Hey Jay. I have been watching your channel for a bit, and commented often. Your channel is interesting and funny. But I wanted to drop a note here to tell you how much I have appreciated your videos these past few months. I lost my nephew to cancer a few weeks ago after a brutal five month battle. When I needed something to distract me, I watched several of my favorite channels, and yours is one of top ten. I watched all the old stuff, rewatched just about everything, and looked forward to the new stuff. I am not trying to get sympathy, as some might think. I just wanted you to know that you made a difference and helped me to not go into a dark place, and I appreciate it.

@@Building_Jays_Way One of the things I enjoy about your channel, is you talk through the process without using a lot of industry speak. I am an instructional designer. I design courses for adults. The biggest hurdle I have found is when you write a course for people who are not pros. They are the new guys. They don't know the lingo. You use terms anyone can understand. I also appreciate that you show mistakes and then the process to fix them. We all make mistakes. My dad is an engineer. When things go wrong, he wants to start over. He is my best friend, and we do pretty much all our projects together. I am an improviser. I was a combat engineer in the Army, We had to learn to make do with what we had on hand. I have the ideas on how we can fix the problems.

Love your videos Jay!! Came across your channel cause Johnny at crafted workshop has the Perkins crew on a couple videos. Fell in love with your crew and watching you boys build. So naturally I came to check out your channel. You’re the exact right mix between pro vs diy. Hey Jay! A few things that could help with GoPro shots (if you are using a gopro). I've noticed it's very distorted (because duh, gopro). If I remember, there some way in editing software (not sure if it is gopro or not) but it allows you undistort it, and make it look flat (like a phone camera). Additionally, (although having an old gopro) I believe you can change how severe/the field of view of the camera. I believe mine has narrow, medium and wide; Depending on those, it will make it much less, to much more distorted. You could play around with each setting and see how it looks and still ensure that all of what you want is still in the shot! Additionally, if there is someway you reach out, I would love to edit that image at 1:13 so that everything but you and your wife is blurred!

Most of the homesteaders qualified for 160 ac, if I recall.Thats a lot of land. 5,000 sf suburban property is a lot to keep up. And you had to enclose your livestock. If you got there early, you would have the best lands and likely water and wood. But you had to deal with men. You would have had to have a strong soul and psych. It would have been lonely!😊 As kids, we grew up on 40 acres but didn't really farm it. About 7 acres was a dg "barrrow pit," decomposed granite, and for local construction projects. Cool heavy equipment carved out the resource. Our water was a dependable spring. We had the High Sierras as our backyard playground.

Just curious, is it okay for that inside wall to land strictly on the blocking only? Won’t the load transfer from the wall, to the blocking, and then into the horizontal nails only? New joist would be stronger? Cheers man nice build!

Yeah, I thought about that but it’s only a couple inches past the Joyce and with the two by fours running across it and the sheathing holding altogether. I believe it will be OK. If it seems down the road, it’s going to sag. I will put some more blocking in between. Thanks for watching

You guys should use some flashing tape on top of the joists and then up and over on top of your deck that your exercise room is on so the water can’t wake up from the joists to your exercise room. Does that make sense? Maybe what I should say, you guys should be putting a flashingon the deck to living room area

@ Don’t you think it would be better to spend a little now, than have to tear down that room later because water got under floor and rotted it ? Love what you are doing btw great job in between building houses
