Great advice. Being alone is not and should NEVER be a time of depression. It's a time to reflect, reenergize, refocus and redo things.

@@HH-gv8mx If I'm not mistaken I've got 5 of his 8 rules in my response. That's MORE than enough for me to understand the importance of being single and alone for a period of time. The point he's making is that being alone and single is NOT the same thing as being depressed. And if you are depressed don't blame it on being alone and single.

@@KnowTrentTimoy these are very obvious points to me. I’ve known that since I was eight. You should be able to be alone without feeling lonely. Someone like J Lo could’ve used that advice.

I was married for 20 years and married very young. After getting divorced I stayed single for almost 2 years. I achieved all my goals for an independent life in those 2 years. I discovered gifts and talents I didn’t know I had. Got rid of all negative feelings attached to codependency. In the first 6 months it felt like an addict on rehab. I was so desperate for new love but after rediscovering myself and having new hobbys that truly give me so much joy doing them, being in a love relationship started to become irrelevant. And that is a very healthy state to be in.

1) know how to be with yourself so you can give yourself and receive what you’re worth 2) Have uncomfortable conversations to improve the relationships 3) There is no perfect person, more choices make more bad decisions, deciding to make something work and putting forth effort leads to the longevity of connections 4) Be honest with yourself and then share your truth with your person 5) Build your self esteem by giving yourself credit and awareness on all of what you have survived through your own strengths, do not be disappointed that your partner does not fix your problems and your feelings, that’s your work 6) Release unhealthy fantasies and be realistic in the principles of love that truly makes sense for you 7) Get comfortable with things that irritate you in your partner and leave space for people’s insecurities and your own and make efforts to acknowledge and have compassion 8) Stop moving on so fast and so quick and put in the energy and effort to stick around and make things work, rather than suffering the same disappointments bc you avoid working on yourself

Staying alone for the right amount of time while working on bettering yourself can make you a very strong individual. As Jay said you won't tolerate nonsense and you can become very powerful if you take the time to discover your strengths without help from anyone. This act is not for the weak and the weak minded looking on who never spent that time alone have no idea why these people may behave the way they do .

@4:00 most of people do not have emotional intelligence and communication skills that would allow them to express their thoughts, wishes and feelings. It takes lots of time and work to get to a point of deep self awareness. Not many are willing to accept own triggers and issues that can poison romantic relationships. That’s why it’s easier to blame on partner and convince yourself they aren’t good and leave them behind. But true love can’t be broken… it will last as long as people are committed and see each other as special ones…
