'It was just the thoughts of a 19-year-old boy of "just go the easiest route".'
Travel Writer Joe Cawley speculates on why Jay Slater decided to tackle the difficult Tenerife terrain when there was a main road he could have stayed on.

Ridiculous. He’s at the Side of a road, waiting for a bus. It has paths, tarmac and is lit. Yet he decides it’s ‘easier’ to go across desert, cactus and mountains. Load of rubbish.

You've clearly never been very young or very drunk. I have . I recall setting on madcap journeys - including an 11 mile detour at 3am rather than wait for a taxi, that involved stepping over a live voltage railway line in a tunnel - having convinced myself they swicthed it off at night (but the loud buzzing said otherwise). Or was my journey a fanciful ' load of rubbish'. Where do you people - with your hints at dark subterfuge and conspiracies - come from ? I prefer my mind - which has certainly done very daft things thanks to being under the influence (occassionally) - to yours , that appears filled with illogical paranoias and delusions

My thoughts from beginning, he caught glimpse of the sea and thought that be quicker to return back his lodgings, sadly not appreciating the unforgiving terrain as an 11hr road walk is rather thought provoking but one never no why he didn't wait for a bus or simply walk via the road further along find a watering hole (cafe) on route and hop on next bus further along. Guess the mind of young fella with a confused thought process. Regardless all the noise this young man, just hope poor lad didn't suffer in extreme weather. Heart breaking lose a 19yr old child. From the start, I put this down to one of three reasons why he went missing. 1. He wants to get from A to B, but B is way too far. He sees lights and life in the distance, and whether sober or not, he picks the shorter path. 2. An animal frightens him off the road (I doubt it, but possible) 3. He does not want to be found walking on the road. He fears being found by one or more people after him.

Doctors view. When patients are high on clubbing drugs, they don’t “think” anything - they just can’t bear to sit still are want to move. An 11 hour walk is a far better prospect than sitting still at a bus stop when their legs are still dancing and there are still “missions” to go on. We see it All the Time. Sometimes you wouldn't even get a proper grasp of reality until 12pm that day, and then you can feel disassociation from reality for days after. This is from first hand experience.

He thought it was the 'easy' route to walk across a mountain range rather than walking on the road or wait for a bus? I know he was drunk, but... Come on. I'm sorry but there is still so much which doesn't add up. We still don't know why he 'couldn't' go back to the AirBnB or wait outside for a bus, OR why all bar/club owners told their staff not to talk to the police. There 100% has been a wall of fear and silence around this case which would suggest he was involved in 'something' before he went missing... Which we know is the case from the confirmed stolen watch which belonged to a 'serious' guy. Whatever though, I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist. Why don't the press or police explain how the rumour he robbed a watch came about, whether its true and whether it was found on the body? That would stop all rumours and both you and the police know it.. Clear up the watch story and stop throwing people in front of camera that don't know anything.. Then, and only then will this stop online.. You just want people to theorise so you have some excuse to curb free speech again when if the authorities did their job and had the intelligence to work out which information is pertinent to ending the rumour mill it wouldn't exist but its too late, you brought out the ghouls now trying to earn from it.. Travel Writer Joe Cawley speculates on why Jay Slater decided to tackle the difficult Tenerife terrain when there was a main road he could have stayed on.... Ok in my eyes that's a 'conspiracy theory ' thought up by a writer.... That's what the news always bangs on about and it's also 'mis-information' put out by the news!

I am not sure what part this woman "TV presenter" did not understand about the search. She questions whether Jay could have been found earlier so he would have been found alive implying that the Spanish police has not done a good job when her guide from Tenerife is telling her on her face that the area is very difficult to search and the police has said the same thing over and over and they have been searching for him for 29 days non' stop. If she thought he could have been found earlier why did she not go herself and search for him in those conditions or even better why does she not question why after 17 years she or her wonderful police has not found Madeleine Mccan yet! As a TV presenter she should be someone neutral and not implying that because the investigation has been done by the Spanish policy and not the British police then it is rubbish. Here the only rubbish is her!.

I think the result of being on drugs for three days would seriously affect his decision making. He went back to party more. Then left. I agree it's a strange d vision but I think judgment was seriously impaired. Searchers have done very well to have found him in this impossible to reach location. 😢

Here we are again. When the Dr Mosley went missing he was eventually found near where it was supposed to have been thoroughly searched and now this poor lad is found very close to where his phone signal last put him and yet again a supposed extensive search didn't find him for weeks. It looks like complete ineptitude on the part of the search organisers in both cases

I agree there's something more to this story but I also understand this was a 19 year old lad who was probably off his face off god knows what and in that frame of mind your not thinking clearly, the main question that most seem to be overlooking is why did he go back to that Airbnb with 2 older man did they perhaps offer him something and why was he so scared that he didn't want to go back, you can see in that video of him in the club that he's out of it so surely his "friends" should of done everything in there power to get him back safely, I saw he apparently lost his key but surely one of the friends could of offered him a sofa just sooooooo much just doesn't make sense and they're convinced he fell but would it also be plausible that maybe he was pushed 🤷
