Ethnicity and economics is the whole reason why we even have this debate. You can be drafted interprofessional baseball why are you are in high school or while you're in college and you can decide that you want to stay in college because you don't like the team that drafted you or where you were drafted at. But if you it drafted into professional football or into the NBA while you're still in college you can no longer play college sports. Basketball and football are dominated by African American kids. That's the only reason why the rules are different. A kid can get paid to play the piano at a wedding and still have a scholarship to go to college for music but if that same kid get some money to play basketball or football he loses his eligibility to participate in college athletics. Why certain sports are dominated by one ethnic group and certain sports are dominated by another ethnic group. And it all comes down to ethnicity and economics.

Exactly Cullen...... people that want to continuously lob the race card out there forget that one huge piece of the puzzle, nevermind the fact that the sports are completely different from one another.

Kids in the MLB have been returning to college if they didn’t like the spot they were drafted in forever. No different for basketball
@rashardstallworth9240
@rashardstallworth9240 6 жыл бұрын
There's a reason why they're not having this discussion about kids that are drafted in professional baseball but decide they don't like the team where they were drafted at so they stay in college. The kids who dominate baseball in this country look a little different than the kids who dominate basketball and football in this country that's why the rules are different

Nope it’s because in baseball you don’t sign a contract therefore you can play college ball and they have to wait three years if they go to a 4 year school most go to a two year school

Sean Gaines what does the rounds matter those kids still have option to go to school or go pro no matter if they get drafted first round or the last you could put the same system at play for the basketball as baseball

It just makes sense to pay the athletes. If you pay them then there’s an incentive for them to stay the full four years. Which means that they can get paid the entire as well as the college making money off of them. It’s a win win. The athlete gets paid and more experience and the college can sell more jerseys and tickets. Instead you get athletes who may not be ready for the pros but choose to go instead because they want the payday. Then their talent can be wasted by never being fully developed. It just doesn’t make sense imo.

Why not make so 1&dones don’t get to come back. If you stay two or more years you get to come back if not drafted or don’t like the spot your in. Paying the athletes should also be an option, I wonder if paying the players but you have to stay longer than a year would be agreeable? Also, will these changes be brought over to the football side?

College athletes better be careful fighting to be considered employees of the university. They will start having to pay taxes on their income on top of the value of their scholarship (average scholarship worth approximately $40,000 per year). The school will also be able to fire them for poor on-field(court) performance. For the top 1% of college athletes, this will not be a big deal but for lesser paid "employees", this could hurt

College players (employees) can be fired (scholarships removed) for poor performance on the court or the field. The NCAA practices a form of socialism. For the administrators and coaches free market/capitalism allows them the ability to command million dollar salaries. For the athletes (employees) the spirit of amateurism conveniently allows the NCAA the right to limit their compensation regardless of their individual performance
