I randomly found this video and I love it. I've always wanted to have a black lambda shuttle model, though with my own logo.

Simply awesome! One of the best repaints for the X Wing Miniatures Games I've seen so far!

A week ago, I first watched this video. Now I own a Silhouette Portrait and am trying out stencil cutting. Thanks a lot for the idea! :)

+Jake Kroker Fantastic! Look into the other things that you can do with the portrait. Did you know you can also cut thin styrene with it? I see a lot of modelers doing some amazing things with it.
@garthantash8 жыл бұрын
I hadn't thought of that, thanks for the tip. I have only had it for 24 hours so am still playing around with just cutting a few star wars symbols to get the idea of how it works.

That paneling technique was absolutely awesome Jay! Never saw it before but now I can hardly wait to try it. I just can't figure out what I want to try it on lol. I'm mostly working on 15mm scale minis and have decided to try to sell some of my work on Ebay. That might be an interesting way to judge popularity and execution of certain new styles I'm trying. Then again I might like them too much to sell at all. That is, if I get them right. Thanks very much for showing us this great stuff. This actually makes the Lambda shuttle look badassed.

Awesome job! I really like the tinting of the canopy glass. I think any other color would have been too muted except for maybe red. Have you ever though about painting or making some custom decals of nose art to put on your ships?

How did you transfer the stencil onto the Miniature while keeping everything inline? Transfer tape?

Tamiya masking tape.

First I gotta say I was put off and thought it was a really idiot move to paint the shuttle black. After seeing the finished, I must say it is really awesome ship you created. I'm impressed. I was wrong.

all paints are model air? If not how do you diluit the paint 50 % paint and 50 % water?

I was much more impressed with the final pictures than the in process shots. It looked really flat and boring during the in process stuff (specifically at the end of the video), but those final finished shots tied everything together. Great job.

I really like it, makes me think of a shuttle Carnor Jax would ride in from Crimson Empire. Not sure how I feel about the cockpit color. It may be just a bit too jarring from the rest of the ship. It may distract a bit from the other details. That said, beautiful job, and it makes me want to start repainting my own fleet.

Do you suggest to use a mask during Thế black painting part
@JayAdan3 жыл бұрын
I would suggest wearing a mask at all times. It's something that I didn't think was important in my early days of painting but as I get older I've realized that everything you do can affect your body over the long term so it's probably better to be safe than to realize years later that it's too late to do anything about it.

The final shots showed off the canopy effect really nicely, Jay. Was there a specific source image that gave you the idea for the colour scheme?
@JayAdan10 жыл бұрын
No, not really. Just something that's been rolling around in my head for a while. I mean, I know that I've been inspired by other minis, but I wasn't thinking about anything specific when I did it.

how did you get the wings to fold down all the way? thanks
@JayAdan9 жыл бұрын
Jake Shear Some of them just do it out of the box. For the ones that don't you have a couple of options. The first is to just work the wings up and down until they free up or you can take it apart and do a little sanding on the gears to make it work.
@davidfoust46079 жыл бұрын
Jake Shear Mine had to "pop" into place, the wings moved freely down till you "lock" them in the down position

Seeing the paint scheme, I thought that would the style for an Imperial Inquisitor, a high ranking darkside devotee, or someone from the secret order of the emperor. Or even an Imperial Ace Shuttle.

Working with stencils, use the base coat first, so black in this case. Let it dry, then use the red, now the red won't bleed because you sealed the stencil with the black base coat.
@JayAdan10 жыл бұрын
I hope that's not what I said.
@LeonGames10 жыл бұрын
Jay Adan No, because you where talking about a red base coat. and then use the stencil to mask of the red parts. But because you used the black base, I would place the stencil, then spray a layer of the black on the place where you want the red. This will just seal your stencil. later you can spray it with the red color, and you will have way more sharp lines. It won't help with the red on black color problem though.

I know this is several years old, but I want to leave something. I have painted and then repainted several Xwing miniatures. The lambda shuttle is different. It came painted with a strange paint on those recesses. I highly advise to REMOVE tha original paint with a isopropil Alchool bath before you paint. Why? Because if you want to in future remove the paint job to make a new one you will SUFFER if you did not do that. That strange paint reacts with common acrilics and cristalize into something you can only remove MECHANICALLY with long hours of scalpel work.

RE: Airbrushes. I just can't even imagine trying to paint a vehicle without an airbrush. Who wants to paint a Land Raider with a big tank brush? No one. "Shuttle Tyderium, you are cleared for airbrush."
@kossamolian405210 жыл бұрын
Awsome!
@evilducks371010 жыл бұрын
I hate you, the panels look awesome, even if it's just airbrush trickery (now I want to buy a damn airbrush) I think a yellow on the window would have actually popped really well too, but I have no issues with the blue. Good call on avoiding more grey. side note: I wrote to you recently about paint brush advice, took it and have now finished 3 green a-wings I'm very happy with. Eyeing a Firespray Kath repaint next. Thanks for all the tips and videos, I've watched dozens. Now, if only people had warned me that you'll always want to go back and tinker with paint even when it's done! damn OCD...
@JayAdan10 жыл бұрын
lol! Yeah, I think that painting commissions has gotten me over wanting to keep painting after something is "done" but I still do it sometimes with my own stuff. As for the airbrush, this wasn't that bad in terms of "trickery." I've been seeing a lot of stuff recently that it was painted by somebody who might have painted panel vans in the 1970's. That's going a bit far.
