extremely impressed by your skills ! got my (first?) SQ70 this week, surprisingly great tool very well thought out UI. One question remains: Is there a way to limit recording on the tracks in SONG MODE to a certain length (# of measures)? I use the SQ70 for recording tracks as a portable linear "DAW' which works great for SHIFT PLAY looping (for extended production later recording the 16 midi tracks into 16 ableton midi tracks). but the loop is f**d if i overdub on one of the 16 tracks for a millisecond too long and there's no way to delete that last measure (deleting then says "no data") and resulting in a gap in the loop playing. i know i could use PATTERN MODE instead but thats 8 tracks only. thank you for your help and keep up your great work! cheers!
@Doffu2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t mind knowing about this too if someone has an answer… Personally I always stick to pattern mode due to this and also I find pattern mode more versatile for live play.

Dunno about the Juno but I successfully did a trance track using only the Yamaha S90ES (check out my video for "Spectrums"). It ain't the best way to do it tho. ;)

Another amazing track. I was wondering if you record the chord changes for each track of 'pattern mode' using 'bypass'? I never see you use the chord change keys.
@JayBmusic4 жыл бұрын
I completely ignored the chord system here. I indeed set most of the tracks to Bypass but as long as current chord and phrase chord are identical the QY will play whatever notes you entered. So I also could have left it on Bass or Chord 1, it wouldn't have mattered.

As far as I know, these two models have different AWM chips... in qy70, like the PSR-630, and in qy100, like the PSR-640... in your opinion, are there any advantages in the qy70? Does anything sound better than the qy100? Maybe the sound is warmer? or better effects? Or something else? Or is the qy100 better in sound in all areas? )
@JayBmusic Жыл бұрын
A lot of people prefer the 70 sound over the 100. In my opinion the 70 has more character while the 100 sound more modern, high quality. In the end it's a matter of taste. I prefer the sound of the 100.
@EuroDJ Жыл бұрын
@@JayBmusic Given the choice between two similar PSRs on the same chips, I prefer the older PSR-630 because of the warmer sound... and because of the better effects processor, the sound is warmer. However, it is difficult to fully compare when there are different samples)

Because there's usually a point when I can't make a section change on time. Or when I forgot to (un)mute a track in time. Then I have to start all over. It's not live when I have to edit in time. ;)

@@JayBmusic Can you explain how you created such bassy kick sound in this? TightTechnoKick layered with pitch enveloped sine wave?) Was this done via CC, NRPN or SysEx?
@JayBmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@nickcollins9893 KickTechno L for the attack (pitched higher, filter fully open), KickTechno Q for the low end (filter mainly closed). BTW KickTechno L and KickTeknoTght share the same sample in the QY70 - unlike the QY100 where it's two different samples.
@nickcollins98932 жыл бұрын
@@JayBmusic thank you for explanation! Is it possible though to create pitch envelopes for drum sounds using NRPN or something? Because I was trying to make pitch envelope for Analog Kick in order to accentuate its attack. Reading the manual didn't help me, because I can't understand how you should enter the parameters of NRPN or SysEx in the EDIT menu.
@JayBmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@nickcollins9893 It is possible. I don't know if per NRPN but you can set a pitch envelope on the entire track using SysEx (check out track edit -> insert event -> SysEx Multi). I've used this on kick drums before. However, you cannot use the track for anything else that doesn't need pitch envelope.

Hey JayB, are you only using the internal sounds of the QYs for this track? I’m wondering because it looks like the MIDI is routed out of the QY70 and into the QY100 in this performance (I imagine you’ve done this just to sync the BPM and no other data is being received by the QY100). It also seems like the sounds are very rich compared to the defaults that I I’ve heard from these devices so it makes me wonder if you have some outboard gear hooked up. I have the same sort of setup right now and am trying to get organized to do more live performances with these devices so any insight into this setup would be greatly appreciated. Also this performance is amazing by the way. It’s the best I’ve seen using this gear to date.
@JayBmusic2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes, the MIDI is only for synchronization. And yes, these are all internal sounds. You can download the Midi file from the description and try it yourself. :)

Cool, sounds pretty polished, like a mixed track. I wonder if you have sidechain there: sounds like there is some, but AFAIK this machines don't have it.
@JayBmusic4 жыл бұрын
That's simulated using CC#11 Expression. MIDI Sidechain, so to say.
@graywolf2004ru4 жыл бұрын
@@JayBmusic Cool trick, thx for info. Actually I used the same trick in FL a few years ago when I had a Virus C and didn't want to route the audio to PC or to get a hardware compressor; I routed kick to a 'peak detector' in FL and configured it to generate Expression CC's. I think I will implement this trick in my hardware device as well, cause for this kind of music sidechain is a must.
