Wow! I have the almost the whole series of these (QY 10/20, RY8, SU10). Got them 20 years ago just to play battery powered sets in odd places. I waited til recently to get the 100 for a cheap price so I could finally have some voice editing. I am so pleasantly surprised to watch your video and realize how amazing they can sound. You have obviously taken quite some time mastering these wonderful little machines, and your natural musical talent doesn't hurt. Thanks for the entertainment and inspiration!

Hi JayB, this is an amazing track done with this little devices. I have a QY70 but am considering getting a QY100 but have been detracted a bit because apparently the sound (engine? dac?) is quite different coming out of these two devices. Considering you have owned/used both, would you say that the sound signature is very different between the two devices? i really like the warm techy sounds i get from my QY70. Bass is sick on that device. Cheers.
@JayBmusic5 ай бұрын
The difference is a matter of taste. The 100 in my opinion has the more polished high quality sounds, however many people prefer the "original" Yamaha XG sound thay the 70 has to offer. The bass in this track is the 100 btw. ;)

Yo JayB, such impressive videos with the QY series. I have a question: So I'm having trouble. I can't side-chain the reverb from the QY100. Do you know any work-arounds? I can tell the instrument/channel to pan reverb, and change the reverb amount. But I can't figure out how to change the volume of the reverb.
@JayBmusic4 жыл бұрын
You can try automating the Reverb Return parameter. It's only available via SysEx at F0 43 10 4C 02 01 0C xx F7 with xx being a value between 00 (0) and 7F (127). It's a bit of work though.

The 70 is sequencing the 100 or how is it set up? I’m a beginner
@JayBmusic Жыл бұрын
They both do their own sequences, but the QY70 is sending MIDI clock to the QY100.

@@JayBmusic ah neat. Thank you for clarifying.

Good shakes! Did you use post processing, mastering?
@JayBmusic7 жыл бұрын
Yes, as written in the description. EQ, Multiband compression and limiter. Biggest change was a bass reduction of about 8 dB.
@igorecord6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Another stupid question ;) Is it possible for yamaha qy 70 to program the parameters of automation? In the factory examples, very good automation!
@JayBmusic6 жыл бұрын
Gosha Varin Sure. At least kind of. Everything that can be controlled using Control Changes or SysEx commands can be programmed. There's a Job called "Create Continuous" (...Data) which creates Control Change events in a range you set to create e.g. a filter automation. However, it's not possible to edit these parameters afterwards. You need to remove them (by hand mostly) and recreate them. The only helper here is an undo function for the last job so you can recreate the automation immediately.

Why don't you use Roland synths instead of Yamaha ? You don't like the sound or you don't want to put money on new synths ?
@JayBmusic7 жыл бұрын
Well, why _should_ I use Roland synths?
@xectyein1337 жыл бұрын
I think they have nice sounds for Trance (kinda Fantasy dreamy in the spirit) but I think you don't need it with the actual quality of your sounds, I was wondering if there was a particular reason
@JayBmusic7 жыл бұрын
To bo honest I never really got warm with the Roland sound. I mean I use 909 stuff - also in this track here, but the overall sound doesn't quite meet my expectations. Besides, Roland is probably predestined for electronic music while Yamaha isn't and that makes it more challenging and fun for me. ;)
