It's not a vocoder. It's VariPhrase by Roland, which is actually another form of Granular Synthesis. You can achieve similar effects with e.g. Melodyne. Just that VP is a realtime engine.

To think that the software is a main aspect of quality is wrong. It's what you make of it. I chose Logic because I practically grew up with it (got it already on Win 3.11). ANd I use hardware because 1) I used to be a live keyboarder in a bad for 12 years and 2) programming sounds is a lot easier of you can touch the device that's making the sound. ;)

Well 131 BPM isn't slow in relation to most music is written to about 120 BPM. Although for this trance-pop stuff it is unusually -but not extremely- slow.
