I wonder what Zerg breathe, because it is fairly certain these planets do not all have the same atmosphere's. Terran and Protoss have suits and vehicles that might allow them on various planets but Zerg, they breathe all the different atmospheres.
@NoESanity3 жыл бұрын
zerg do not breathe, they are fed all nutrients, including what ever form of oxygenation equivalent they would need through creep. notice that not only do zerg exists on all kinds of planets, but also in the vacuum of space.

@paragonyoshi42374 жыл бұрын
@@rebornpheonix1016 However, just because it was made by the same people, doesn't mean it wasn't butchered. I mean, the Prequel Trilogy of Star Wars is a good example of that, as is Final Fantasy 7 with all the changes and retcon's it had to endure. Another thing to consider, is the time frame. Starcraft 2 came out a long time after Brood War. So long, that the original writers probably forgot about most of the established story beats. They are human after all. So no, I think the criticism against SC2 is valid. And just because it was written by the same people, doesn't make it exempt from mistakes, contradictions and criticism.

Random question to whoever feels inclined to answer: If you were faced with the situation of being given a set of terran buildings i.e. command centre, barracks, factory at the start of a mission, but you did not have the option of building more buildings, and instead would have to rely on moving them around by lifting them off and putting them down somewhere else as something chased you throughout the level. Would this make a fun mission, or am I in over my head? Really enjoyed this series btw Jay.

They used this mechanic in a Wings of Liberty mission whose name escapes me at the moment. You're running from a wall of fire that is quickly engulfing the whole planet and you need to fight your way through entrenched Protoss ("Taldarim") forces. I hated that mission with a fiery passion, especially because you can't lift certain buildings like engineering bays anymore so you had to leave behind your upgrade structures. Since you can't salvage most buildings resources became a real pain. Hell, they cut the Star Base in the WoL alpha (mobile Starport that could build while moving) which meant your mobile build options were nonexistent. While a neat idea with the mechanics of the time it was simply a massive pain in the ass for the player. I assume you are considering a mission where the player is being chased by an army or slow semi-invincible (crazy amounts of health) unit so the player would need to relocate their base several times over the course of the map. Regardless the core idea remains similar enough, and is flawed in the same ways. Short of introducing several hero units on your side to balance out continually loosing a good portion of your tech when you moved (or not having any tech at all? You did not mention tech labs/reactors, engineering bays, or armories. How would the player deal with upgrades?) the theoretical mission would just be tedious for the player. Actually, even with heroes or elite units the mission would still be tedious. In short, blizzard essentially tried what you seem to be suggesting and it turned out to be really bad idea.
@sonofshadowbrand9138 жыл бұрын
Exactly my predicament! The mission's name is "supernova" and is my least favourite mission of all time. I was wondering if other people felt this way before I made a similar map in an attempt to change it to make it more unique and "fun" than the blizzard counterpart, though rather than fire in a straight line it would be a battlecruiser that would expressly chase your command centre, and you would have to "kite" it while doing damage with the heroes you have.
@Meriwether318 жыл бұрын
In your case I think how you handle the Battlecruiser and player production is most important. For example, is the BC constantly on the move, meaning it could potentially be harassing the player around every corner (also consider its move speed)? Is it marked on the map continuously (That large evil face that pops up on the mini map in some missions)? Is there any way for the player to delay it (for example do enough damage to force it to temporarily retreat, or maybe take out a generator somewhere on the map that weakens/disables its main cannon?) For player production, how you handle resources, supply, and army sustain are likely going to be the key points. Resources can be alleviated with mules and auto-refineries, and the fact that CC's can carry SCV's. The real issue comes with getting mined out. How many viable bases would be on the map and what is the ultimate end goal? (don't actually answer this, just something to think about). Next is supply, since depots can't be moved this will become a major pain if/when the BC destroys them. Consider having the player supply start at perhaps 100 which can be kicked up to a max of 200 if they build enough depots. Gives the player enough wiggle room early on to spend resources on getting their economy into shape without needing to worry about supply until they've actually started making a proper army. Last, army sustain. Is fighting the BC and its forces an actual viable choice? (see the point about delaying it with damage). Does it do enough damage to one-shot say, vikings or goliaths or whatever the core AA is going to be? Before and after 3/3 upgrades? I covered tech previously so won't talk about it here, however I will say look into if it is possible to make a floating structure produce units (spamming marines out of a flying barracks would be quite useful) and see if you can make EVERYTHING that isn't production salvageable, including tech labs and depots. Depending on how fast the BC finds or catches up to the player being able to produce on the move could become vital. Also it gives you a nice gimmick that sets your map or maybe campaign apart from many others. Oh, and because I just remembered, see if engineering bays can be made to fly, but made so they can only research while landed. Dump all upgrades into that building aside from stuff at the tech labs. In theory this can be done if make enough changes to the formula to accommodate a constant major foe and continual relocation. Not sure how much work you want to put into this though and for better or worse your map WILL be compared to "Supernova" at every turn. These are just some general suggestions I came up with on the fly after considering this style of map for maybe 20 minutes. I'm not saying don't go make this if you really want to, only that there will be some significant design issues you will need to overcome. Good Luck!
