As a former trucker, it’s a really vulnerable group. A lot of young guys go into it for the “freedom” of the open road, but really there’s no work life balance at all. It’s hard to maintain relationships you had before you started trucking, it’s nearly impossible to start new ones. The work schedule for OTR (over the road/long haul) trucking is typically like 3 weeks on, 3 days off. Some companies don’t even let you do as many as three. It’s 70 hour work weeks and it gets very lonely. It’s not surprising these men get desperate for whatever they can get, even if part of them knows it’s a lie. In addition to that, trucking is usually suggested to people that cannot hold down regular daily jobs working alongside a team or with the general public. It’s pushed onto a lot of disabled and neurodivergent people, but the lack of socialization in trucking can often make social problems worse. I’m glad I’m out of it.

Stuff like this is why online and media literacy is so important and should be taught in schools, retirement homes, and those classes you can sometimes take locally. It's so important that people have the skills to recognize scams and fake images. We are doing people a disservice sending them out into the online world without those skills and that's how so many people, young ones and grannies alike, are getting scammed out of their money.

​@@caitwon I think their point is the people most likely to get scammed always will be because a part of them knows something is up and ignores it or are too stubborn to take a class in the first place. A class isn't going to help the people most likely to get catfishes imo. That's partially why some catfishes/scams make horrible photoshops and obvious things wrong in their scams because if that person ignores those things they're the perfect target to ignore everything and keep giving them money.

This episode triggered me sooo much... My 73yo mother has fallen for a number of romance scammers over the last 10 years - the first one took her for about 30k.. Even within the last year and half since my stepdad passed (they were together for 25yrs), my mom has been scammed at least 4-6times that i know of.. And I really have no clue how much she was taken for... I know it was so much that she had to live with my Aunt for about 3 months while finding a new place.. My mom has FINALLY smartened up since the last one broke her heart and took her for 2k rent money.. She now asked me about EVERYTHING and she doesnt fall for anything online. I have told her soo many times that shes on many lists of "scam victims" that she will probably get hit up everyday but they will go away in time.. I am so proud of her progress and how far she has come.. She has gotten her grove back thats for sure 💯🥰💅She is slaying again like the Queen she has always been. I love her so very much.. Now back to the video 🥰

She is my mentor and my hero, she has so much inner strength that she doesn't even realize.. I'm so sorry to hear about your mother's experiences with being scammed, it's an awful feeling no matter the monetary value and I really hope she finds love in the right place if that's what she is looking for. Good on you for looking out for her and keeping her in the know about potential scams she may come across. I'm so grateful my elderly gran who passed last year never used the Internet or even learned how to text, she was a sharp woman mentally but clueless to what's possible with scammers and technology these days. She did get calls trying to get her bank info but I'd warned her about some techniques they use thankfully. Anyone getting scammed is awful but especially the elderly imo, they're just so innocent to it all. Wishing you and your mother only love, peace and health for the future ❤

I hope I don’t get backlash for this because this is a genuine statement. He reminded me of some of the higher functioning clients that I work with. They are always on social media and get easily trapped into trusting people. And that’s with anything. And they are very naive to how much people on the internet can be sketchy. I have a client who has sent money (which she does not have a lot of) to get something that she wanted and was scammed. Even though we express to her that she has to be careful. Now his is worse because he has more but it’s the same thought process
