No excuse for the lack of a courtesy vehicle. When my car went in for warranty work on a dented panel ( done before purchase and agreed to fix by dealer) they had non available so the service manager gave me his own car for a week! Things like that stick with you.

buck3366 well just remember that the managers car was intended to be used for customers to begin with and when not needed they can grab one until needed, so while he could’ve been a dick, he did what he was supposed to not so much above and beyond, these days I guess that is praise-worthy nonetheless

As a current owner, I totally agree with your points and they reflect both my experience and the experiences of other owners. I think the lack of curtesy cars when there's major failures is really shocking and sums the company up. I want to see Lotus improve, but they really don't seem to care about their customers at all. And like you, I've influenced quite a few people into buying a Lotus, but they really just don't care.

Owned my 2015 4c since new. Not a single problem and dealers (3 in my part of Michigan) have all been very good. Sadly Lotus no longer sold in US...but while an Exige 6 cylinder would be neat, past experience and reputation would be concerns. Here in US the 4C has proven to be reliable and bullet proof on track. With minor suspension tweaks and better tires (P stock tires emphasize tramming) they can be quite the track weapon. Previously owned a 1970 ALFA dueto bought new snd kept over 40 years. Also a 67 ALFA GTV SCCA road racer that was raced a couple of years. Have owned lots of cars from all countries but only ALFA stays in garage a long time.

I purchased my 400 via lotus Silverstone which helped as they're nice people and are very much customer first. As per your comments on dealers, jct600 for a car like this is not a good mix, they have issues with porkers aswell so it isn't isolated. It also baffles me how they risk annoying a guy who started a video blog series on lotus due to the purchase of this car! If I ran the dealer you'd be treated like a loss leader to allow me to showcase what the dealer/brand could do, it's amazing arrogance that they would short change you when you have 20k subs. Now in the past year, I have only put 2k miles on it... yet I have been to the dealership for repairs FIVE TIMES!! There is a quality control issue and I've never felt fully 'comfortable' with the car. As far as dealers.. my local dealer in San Diego is an absolute joke... they are inept, clueless and really don't give a rats ass about Lotus... so I drive 100 miles away to Irvine to have my car serviced. I think if they do not do this a video like this will be result in a major (further) drop in sales for the foreseeable future. I am amazed they have not responded yet. Also this must be infuriating to many of the Lotus staff, it cannot be very motivating for all those excellent engineers to see their customer service department kill off so publicly all their good work? Back in the 70s if you drove Lotus then you fixed it on Sunday to drive it on Monday. These days owners are poofs more concerned with topping up their after shave than their oil and wouldnt fix a car for fear of chipping their nail varnish. If you cant be bothered to learn and keep a runabout for when your car needs work then you deserve all you get. FSH and warranty systems are designed to rip you off and stabilise dealers work load/ annual accounts NOT keep your car in tip top condition. Missing stamps in the book lead to sleepless nights about work that wouldnt have been done anyway. Wake up, man up, smell the coffee and get real.

**LOTUS IS IN A HIGH STATE OF TUNE** You're not a proper 'Fit' for a Lotus. They focus on maximizing driver experience. They do not focus nearly as much as "let's make this a daily driver". Lotus focuses on MAXIMUM STATE OF TUNE. 25,000 miles after only 2 years! Sounds like it was your daily driver. Exotic sports cars. These factories rarely if ever have the big budget for testing. An exotic sports car is a 2nd car, not the daily driver. As to the "I paid a lot, thus it has to be a daily driver" - get an undertuned MASS production car - where the manufacturer builds a run of 50,000 units of each model, like from any of the massively huge manufacturers. They make so many undertuned cars they get "economies of scale" when they purchase the raw materials and parts. Lotus won't. I've been buying Lotus new from the dealer since 1996 in the USA, and have never been stranded. Lotus cars at tuned for driving wild. Not for driving daily. 25,000 miles? Wow. I don't even put 25,000 miles in my daily driver car in 2 years. Then again I have a 2nd car - my Lotus. As to the courtesy car, again that will happen with a mass-production undertuned generic bore. Toyota, Honda, GM, Ford, etc. **REASONS TO BUY AN EXOTIC CAR** 1) high rate of tune - the handling and the engine 2) lots of nice noise - the louder, the better 3) **EXCLUSIVITY** (aka 'status symbol' to some; if that sounds crass buy a Toyota) 4) huge driver fun: 0-60mph times are amazing, the car drives and sticks to the road like it's on a rail, and you can get away from the slow Undertuned Toyota/Honda/GM/Ford crowd *fast* If you find yourself saying "I'm going to spend huge money, $xxx, on a Lotus/Ferrari/Lamborghini and then use it as a daily driver, and it better hold up like a mass-produced undertuned Toyota" ..... DO NOT BUY AN EXOTIC CAR. Buy a car that is NOT in a state of maximum tune. The reason the mass produced cars are DETUNED is to keep their warranty cost very low for the manufacturer. Boring car = low price, no fun to drive, no noise. **QUICK REVIEW** - EXOTIC CAR: high state of tune, for maximum driver fun - REGULAR CAR: under-tuned for long term boring lifespan to keep the warranty costs low for the manufacturer **CRUX** - Buy one "low-state-of-tune" regular car for your daily driver - Buy an exotic car for fun - Know the difference. The whole thing is "STATE OF TUNE." A high state of tune OFTEN results in shorter warranty period. Race cars are in EXTREMELY high states of tune. Massively expensive. And only last a few races. Toyotas last forever and you'll pass out from boredom driving one. . . .
@JayEmmOnCars5 жыл бұрын
The flaw in your logic is that this car is NOT in a high state of tune, at all. How do I know? Lotus told me. 400hp from a supercharged 3.5 V6 is not a lot. And the Evora was *designed* as a daily drivable car. It's not an Elise or Exige, which is what you'd buy if you just wanted a canyon carver

Why for heavons sake would we unsubscribe. You clearly have been badly let down by your dealerlship, and to a lesser extent by Lotus. If I had spent £70000 I would expect no less than you. The dealership obviously didn't appreciate your custom, but how typical of a Plus if you have any other advice on the subjectmain dealer. Lesson learned I think. James you are and will remain my go to channel for anything to do with cars. With that in mind, I am considering buying a Porsche 997.4. Are prices likely to fall or should I get in quick before they rise any further. Any other advice would also be much appreciated. Please keep the videos coming, and I can't wait to hear what you have replaced the Evora with.

Wonder how reliable the non-supercharged Evoras are. Whats it like to have for 100K plus miles? A dead supercharger wasnt as bad as I was expecting.

I was shocked when the notification popped in to say you had released a new video and I read the title!! From getting to know you from this channel I knew it would not be a clickbait title and I felt gutted. Gutted for me as I love the Evora and gutted for you as I knew how much you loved the car. Having seen your video I am angry at the dealer for depriving everyone on this channel the chance to see the car. The small saving grace is that Charlie has bought it, who I also follow but not as closely as you. I am definitely not unsubscribing and I look forward to seeing where you go from here. Good luck and chin up!

Interested to see what you replace it with. I occasionally think about selling my S, but can never quite go through with it. Mainly because I really can't see what else I'd buy as a replacement. Oh and thanks to you, I'm still desperate to by an Excel...

On the positive side, I am still very much in love with my 400 and I can only recommend my dealer at Hexagon as they have always behaved impeccably.

I owned a 2013 Lotus Evora S ips still under warranty.It was returned to the factory many times for faults. The worst was it would suddenly go into ‘limp home’ mode.The factory were unable to fix it so I reluctantly sold it and bought a new Jaguar F type S.
@flinops5 жыл бұрын
How has the Jaguar ownership been like since then? Because I've heard that they also tend to be not as reliable.
@brianmckennon47065 жыл бұрын
I have had it for 3 years now with a number of problems which were fixed under warranty.The 2 major issues were a knocking in the roof (which was a missed adhesive and involved a strip down) and corrosion of the rear x member which was replaced.Jaguar have extended the warranty by 1 year.I am now very pleased with the car and the dealer , Marshalls ,Peterborough have been excellent.
@flinops5 жыл бұрын
That's probably a good idea to extend the warranty, thanks for the response!

Greetings from Portugal James. Your integrity throughout has always been a highlight of the channel and your video detailing this developmeant is in keeping with that tradition. I was sorry to learn you were selling the car but as with your other fans I’m not going anywhere. On a personal note, thanks for trusting me with the news. I look forward to seeing you again in the States or in England and I’m eager enjoy your experiences with the new car. Any new car purchase all boils down to the ownership experience in the end and that is reliant on good local service. When that fails a customer is left with no other choice As for us, we’re looking forward to getting home after a long but exciting trip.

Shame, fantastic car but sounds like a crappy ownership experience. You're right to mention the point that for normal people, a 70k car is a big big deal and the dealership should go the extra mile to make you feel special while passing over that amount of cash. I too would be downright insulted in them not being bothered to drive 20mins to pick me up.

I bought a 400 on the back of your videos which I watch religiously , such a shame to her the news. Could I ask if there was any diagnostics on the super charger failure? Also bought mine from the same dealer in Leeds. I live in London and need it’s second service soon, who would you recommend ? Keep up the Evora content please!!!

If you are in London, I hear good things about Hexagon - but I also highly recommend Bell and Colvill

Long Stratton Lotus are great mechanics and do fantastic work, but their lack of courtesy car is a joke! When I took my Elan in for a new radiator 3 years ago, they did give me a falling apart VW Polo which they said I had to pay for insurance for it myself which cost me 50 quid so not as bad as your cost of hiring a car, but if you bought the car from new...really falls short of the "Lotus Experience"

Sad to see the Evora gone JayEmm but I hope you find the same passion for another marque. Thank you for sharing the journey with us and here's looking forward to seeing where go from here! Like quite a lot of people commenting I have nothing good to say about JCT600; having had dealings with JCT600 Peugeot and JCT600 Audi, I'm not convinced they could cheese in a sandwich without messing it up (language moderated at this point). Lotus Leeds are my nearest dealer but I vowed I'd never step foot over their threshold, I'll head much farther afield to avoid giving them business; based on your experiences it sounds like I made the right decision!

So he bought a Lotus to prove that they are reliable despite its reputation. Channel displays their shit customer service, in addition to the unreliability. Too bad. Good luck with next car.

Such a shame to hear you've sold it! I know only a minor part of your decision but I strongly feel if you had bought from a dealer like Bell & Colvill you would have got that "welcome to the family" feeling as I know first hand they do lots of events and trackdays for their customers I've been on. It has been great to watch your videos on it and the 400 has been placed on my must have bucket list because of them! Looking forward to seeing what's replacing it!!

You seem to be saying that Lotus doesn’t deserve its reputation but your experience would be totally unacceptable to me. Numerous small issues from new and a mechanical just highlights the glorified kit car nature of the brand

many dealerships in general are poor... lotus on their industrial estates and farms are no better and in many cases much worse as you can see. Less professional...less well trained. Lotus cars as you always knew will never have the quality of porsche until geely invests heavily. Control quality lacking.... hand made products never match in general. You once said you thought this car was designed by italian design house, it wasnt.. was in house lotus designer. i suggest you keep an elise for fun weekend and get something more reliable for week to week day to day..... id like a lotus, but hard to justify 60 70 80 90 100 for something you know is way behind on quality than porsches, although much more alive.... you pay your money and take your pick i guess. SOrry you had bad luck with it... hope your new car is relatively exciting!!
@jameswingrove74216 жыл бұрын
That’s a bit poor on the courtesy car front isn’t it? And not collecting you from the train station? I’d have been wanting to take my money elsewhere. It’s a shame you’re letting the Evora go though. Stunning car. Also, what was the music at the start of your video called? I rather liked it.

When my 2010 Elise SC was recalled by Lotus for an oil hose design fault of their own making I was quite unable to negotiate any reasonable solution with the factory in Hethel, who expected me to drive a potentially dangerous car 500 kms to the nearest dealer in the South of France to have the anomaly fixed at their expense. Not having managed to persuade after sales, in the person of Neil Turner at Hethel to propose a suitable solution I confided my car into the very capable hands of my all time favourite mechanics ... the Stevens, father and sons at The English Car Mechanics in Opio, who did a fantastic job to improve my car and eradicate the Lotus factory design faults from Hethel. Yes I paid from my own pocket, but my car was better, as a result than when it had left the factory in 2010. The intransigence of the position at Hethel had been related to cash worries and Neil Turner was simply following orders from above but the incident did nothing to improve client relations. If you have a valuable and/or high performance car that needs attention in the South of France TECM in Opio are the people to take it to ... they are dammned good highly skilled mechanics!

sorry to hear jay. your evora was the main reason why i followed your channel. there are not many lotus content on youtube. hope you will still review lotuses in future. will still support you regardless of your next car, keep up the good work. btw i'm a subaru brz owner from malaysia, in 5-6 years i may be looking at a used evora 400/410, m2, boxster/cayman. would you still recommened someone to go for a used evora 400 say from 2017 manufacturing date onwards? knowing that you once told 2016 batch had a lot of issues.

Thanks JayEmm for all your videos on your Evora. I've seen your car in the flesh many times as I live 30 miles North of London and seen it at various car shows and have always admired it I feel sad for the way you've been treated by JCT600. Seems like another case for we've got your money and now we don't care big company attitude. I always looked forward to the Evora videos as I own a N/A IPS for nearly 3 years now and it's been a amazing and reliable car so I will miss your updates. Best of luck with your new car whatever it is.... Im not unsubscribing as I want to see what it is....😃

I had problems with JCT600 Porsche back in 2007 when I had my Boxster S. They truly do not give a toss about customer service in any shape or form. Regarding your Lotus you'd have been better with a Cayman GT4. Better, faster car and you'd have probably made money on it..

Bet you feel real bad now about putting people onto Lotus and their crap dealer network, don’t you? Fucking appalling attitudes at their distributors, so far up their own exhausts! Now it’s owned by the Chinese Geely, bloody Ute manufacturers, it’s all over RIP Colin Chapman.😎🇦🇺👎

Currently contemplating (again) buying a new Elise, so have been re-equating myself with the car/brand online. The idea of getting into an Elise 220 Sport before the brand possibly takes off with Geely investment and new models is quite appealing. I suspect the replacement will be out of my budget. However your experience, particularly considering your personal influence on the enthusiasts is quite worrying; what chance would I have....???
@JayEmmOnCars5 жыл бұрын
Lotus did not consider me worth special treatment. I agreed with them. I just wanted the treatment anyone who buys a £70,000 should get. I didn't receive it.
@andrewroberts54165 жыл бұрын
Agree you shouldn’t get any better or worse treatment. The point I was trying to make is you have a greater ability to hurt the brand than most and they couldn’t even meet your reasonable expectations. That concerns me as a prospective purchaser buying into a slightly off-piste manufacturer. Believe me I had my share of poor support from another low volume UK manufacturer of niche lightweight sport cars...
@simonzero38155 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the very fact that you see so few Lotus products on the road, is probably a large part of fact behind what bugs you about the brand. One will not improve without the oþher. There simply is not the funding or indeed the Will behind the mark. You have to accept that from the off with the word Lotus.
@fragu1236 жыл бұрын
So, listening very carefully and drilling it down to the essence, you sold it because it’s unreliable and bad build quality, which you have been relatively heavily arguing with the other way around when discussing the Porsche vs. Lotus thing... 🤔😉😂
@JayEmmOnCars6 жыл бұрын
And it would not have been half an issue with proper dealer support
@nairbyad71885 жыл бұрын
why would you assume a warranty meant that "no costs would be incurred"? most warranties just mean the product gets repaired. when our refridgerator failed, if i had not moved the food to an ice box, should they have replaced the food? it was an expensive fridge, but... see my point, lotus have their financial issues. car dealers are simply awful and abusive organizations.
@paolasanchezd6 жыл бұрын
Dude, the dealer you bought from is shitty and have chosen to be uncourteous to you. That said, the supercharger issue probably put doubts in your mind too about Lotus quality so I don’t blame you for taking action. Get an Alfa Romeo, I heard they are sexy as hell and a peach to drive ;)
