In my experience, German turbo charged performance engines all like to burn more oil than you'd expect - so it might not be a sign of oncoming turbo failure - then again it's getting up around the typical lifespan for a lot of factory turbochargers. Also it's a fairly early direct injection engine, so could well be a bit coked up, which can also cause excess oil consumption.

i remember being 11 years old, was on the train across my big country. On halfway, mom told me that my dad is riding a porsche cayenne across the country, and we might see him at next station. So i switched train for cayenne, and rode like 400km or more in it. It is one of my most precious car moments.

James, your timing is amazing! Around the USA people are running the numbers and coming to the same conclusion as you - the Porsche Cayenne is perfect in everything except initial sticker price. And that means well cared for used examples are disappearing, fast! It also helps that the 1st gen Cayenne is a handsome vehicle, especially post facelift. The way things are playing out every pre-owned Cayenne in good condition will see asking prices rise. Regretville? I think you made a good move here. Cheers, James!

@chartreux1532
@chartreux1532 Жыл бұрын
@@EvoraGT430 I'd be curious who that Porsche Tech is and in which Country, because nothing could be further from the Truth. Just check the Reliability Data from all Cayenne Models by the "TÜV" from Germany as well as other very strict European Vehicle Testing and Rating Groups. And trust me, they are considered the most strict Car Control Agencies in the World for a Reason. In fact, most American Car Owners couldn't get their Car pass the TÜV Test (no matter the Brand) because of how lax and non-strict Car Control is in the USA. This btw is also why most People who call BMWs "unreliable money pits" happen to be from the USA, because in the USA you don't have to take proper Care of your Cars by Law, so they treat their BMW (or other Cars) badly, arent punctual for check-ups and oil changes etc. and then when stuff breaks early on, they blame the Brand instead of themselves. In most of Europe if you treat your Car that way, you won't pass the every 2-year "TÜV" (+ other Countries Checkups) and won't be allowed to drive it anymore. So the Reliability Data over here for Cars that are considered unreliable in the USA, are Top on Reliability, since People are afraid they won't be allowed to continue driving their Car, so People here take much better Care of their Car, which leads to better Reliability
@autobahnproven
@autobahnproven Жыл бұрын
@@chartreux1532 Absolutely agree with all your comments. While living in Germany, I had mostly high performance cars and maintained all of them scrupulously. The TÜV every two years is a big deal and takes anwhere from 15-30 minutes. In the US, I know of someone whose car passed with only a quick 10-second inspection of the lighting.

We have the very same car Jay…excellent choice! I have run through mine, cost a couple of K to get it where I wanted… first thing I did was change every fluid (there are a few!) lower arms, boot struts, thermostat, air/oil separator all done myself to save money as garages see a Porsche and get a little “excited” with their estimates! Interesting you get 20mpg! Mine started at 13 and now runs at 14…all local small trips. I have used nearly a litre of oil in 2000 miles. No leaks, just use and mine has 94k miles on. I’ll see what it can do on a decent trip shortly. Not sure about your remap though! Mine runs a bespoke map performed by previous owner on a dyno… I have the printouts…. 600 is unlikely but I’d love to compare it. Good luck with yours! They are stupid… and marvellous. All at once!! 😂 Oh and apple car play is a must!! The headunit (PCM) is terrible!!! 😂

It shows how things have progressed; everyone slammed the chassis-share with the Touareg, but today the response is "Well, of course you would share the chassis", very little has a unique chassis these days. It wasn't the nicest car when it was new, but the facelift did a really good job in helping the car age actually really well. Oh, by the way, Ben spoiled the surprise as I say his DadCar video first, so I knew what the reveal was. It's great you give him so much help and support.

Interesting comment on the interior space being good, I feel newer cars are getting worse in this - I’m shocked how little usable space is in some vast SUV - I first noticed this on the first gen Q7 which was almost small inside. The issue seems to be the tumblehome (well that’s the yacht term) where the sides flare out and the roof is low. The Disco 3/4 were brilliant for being slab sided while most 4x4 now are heavily flared below the window line while roofs are lowered to look maybe sleek? I really feel amazed that people want cars with a huge footprint that are actually almost cramped inside.

We bought ours despite me saying it was the ugliest car ever (!) as we wanted a fast SUV. Only issue with ours was the Panamanic roof was ‘inconsistent’ for opening/closing but you soon learnt to just push it up to help it, and the cost to fill a tank was heartbreaking. And that when fuel was £1 😂

I had a 2005 S on a 4 year lease. It got me thru some serious snow storms with ease. It never went off road but I did made use of the low range in said snow storms. It was problem free except the passenger well was always damp. Never found out why but suspect a leak thru the front window seal. It went back

Low range gearing is the opposite of what you want in adverse weather.

If it has to be an SUV, might as well do the sensible thing and get a Porsche 🎉 Great choice!

A friend of mine bought a 1st gen Cayenne a few years back, within a few months the needed repairs cost more than he paid for it. So definitely take a close look at any used Cayennes a lot of them have not been well cared for.

Try a Volvo, say a S60 R, V70 R, or a later V70 or S80 T6, there all about 300 bhp , 1.6 - 1.7 tonnes, 4wd, and fairly quick, or a 97 - 02 C70 T5 Gt, or an old 850 T5-R, even the C70 is roomy enough, just a few ideas could be worth a try, maybe see if you can get one or any of them on the channel to review

Great info and video !!! I just purchased a 2016 Porsche Cayenne turbo virtually no records of maintenance. I know it was a dealer maintained car throughout the last three owners. How do I know if it’s time to replace the transmission fluid? I am at 64,417 miles. My previous car was a Toyota 4 runner that ran 110,000 before I changed the fluid. can you tell me what that fluid was that you used was a third of the price from Toyota? thanks again for the great information and video!!!

What happened to the maserati? I've had a cayenne for a couple of years now. Thirsty but really nice car.

Look up the Air Oil Separator, these should almost be treated as maintenance parts on Porsches of this era and will increase oil consumption and create a white smoke before eventually failing catastrophically and having HGF-like failure symptoms.
