I had the 2018 (2.0L) V60 Polestar for a year and had a love hate relationship with it. The carbon front splitter was a PITA, in that it almost pulled the front bumper off when driving through a suburban flood at walking pace. It also made recovery of the vehicle an 8 hour endeavour when there was a puncture and the tire sealant didn't (couldn't load it onto a low loader due to overly low, now bonded on splitter). The sheer amount of dash buttons was absolutely ridiculous. It seems those two 'features' are solved with this model, plus a little bit more grunt too. The local dealer has one in stock too, think I will take a closer look. It did get a lot of complements from the types of folk that you would want to complement and the 'boy-racer' types that you would want to ignore you did. Thanks for the video.

Engineering is about making things work, over engineering is like making a very intricate boot hinge mechanism to get an extra degree of opening, a lot more effort for little additional benefit. @markwright31613 жыл бұрын
@@lvk104 I imagine someone at Volvo wiped it down as part of the Covid procedure to prevent spread. The idea is to prevent it spreading from being on the surface. To wipe down for aesthetics sake afterwards with a microfibre towel, the towel would need independently sterilised. The streaking is from the alcohol rapidly evaporating. Its boiling point is only around 60 degrees Celsius I believe compared to water being 100 degrees, so it will naturally evaporate faster off a surface of the same temperature, and a higher humidity (relatively common in the UK) increases the rate at which the alcohol evaporates as it's attracted to the water in the air, higher humidity means more water in the air which increases evaporation of any alcohol present (had to google that, I was thinking of a different, now known to be incorrect, reason). I think using a microfibre towel to apply the fluid will still result in streaking because it needs to be on the surface in order sterilise it properly. Wiping on and off at the same time will not be very effective. Effective application of the sterilising agent would be like wiping a car down with an already damp/wet towel.

The question I always ask with hybrid tech like this is - as you describe running around in electric drive only and then you want some performance, so you use all systems go- the engine kicks in and you start to use it harder- If you were using a normally powered car you'd warm it up for a mile or two, surely using an ICE engine in this way is going to increase wear and shorten its life.

This car is now the cheapest non-lifted wagon you can purchase in the United States. The only other wagons are the Audi RS6 Wagon, the Mercedes AMG E 65 wagon, and, well, the Porsche Panamera, all of which start $20,000 more than this car. Note that I specced out a UK version that has the standard features in the US version - many of the additional options in the UK are standard in the US version, which brings the price to about $67500 (no VAT in the US). But the Climate, Seat, Lighting, Lounge, Driver assistance, Smartphone Integration, B&W Sound are already included in that base price in the US. The few options in the US are fancier paint, various luggage racks, mudflaps, child locking bits, rubberized mats, rear bumper protection, and various Bike rack things. Maybe that provides a different verdict.

Great review! Love the styling of this generation V60... it's just missing a couple of cylinders ;-) Integrated Automotive do a box to upgrade the original V60 (Polestar) with CarPlay and Android Auto for £440.

You can get an auto luggage net on these but I think it's part of a convenience option pack.

So it does the Volvo thing of overtaking on a Swedish country road rapidly and efficiently. And being a Polestar, it does the same thing, but a bit quicker.

"Volvo is a company that very often seems to be at odds with itself". This is very true, but not really because of the hybrid bit. They are a "safety first" company that bothers to build cars with a gratuitous 400 HP. They build performance cars that do everything in their power to prevent you from enjoying that performance. They tout ergonomics but shove everything into a non-ergonomic touchscreen and voice interface. They claim premium but cut corners and options out the whazoo.

Thats why i will be keeping my manual volvo 850R, power + saftey but still fun to drive

Aye, that's true. I love my 09 S60, but SE trim, which was the middle in terms of luxury, apparently didn't feature heated seats, powered passenger seat, premium audio, laminated side glass, sunglasses holder, rear sunblind, bixenon headlights or a heated windscreen (to be fair, none of the P2 gen came with a heated windscreen). You need an SE Lux to even get most of those features, never mind all

Imagine this beauty with a respectable engine with a real 405 bhp.

I've always loved polestar volvos but I think now, it is very niche, for 5he money you can buy something with similar bhp and will go faster, im afraid your right that only true dedicated fans will buy these.

Seems a hard sell at North of 50k While a turbo/supercharger/ hybrid combo sounds good when talking about your new company car in the office Maybe not such a talking point in 4 years time in the canteen (other than a worry if anything goes wrong)

I still prefer the previous gen V60 D6 hybrid that came with the 5-cyl 2.4 diesel. No 2.0 liter petrol can beat that.

Enjoyed this, wish it was better to drive as lack of rivals to the prestige Germans. Think I was born 20 years too late as would have loved a T5 Estate back in the 90s, even though front wheel drive.
