Removing the centre screen is not the answer. The Purosangue removed the centre screen, but when you try to use Car Play, it takes up the whole driver display, removing the rev counter and so forth. Not something you want with a performance car. Car Play was designed for a centre screen. The real cure for the problem is to just up the processing power. Such an easy fix that they couldn't make work. Hm.

Excellent review James, I have a Roma and managed to get over 400 miles on a tank when travelling through France, although as you say this changes when you use it to it's potential. Shades of the Ferrari 365 GTB in the Roma. I think that's what Ferrari was going for when they tagged it with "La Nuovo Dolce Vita". It's a beautiful thing. Like the 458, doesn't have the scoops and vents (mostly because of its front-engine layout), which allowed for the flowing lines and cleaner profile than the 488, 296, and even the 812.

Great Video! Like the Intro with the changing music very much. - The gap between the doors and dashboard saves Ferrari a lot Headaches. That is one of the hardest parts in the Interior to get perfect matched up. So many parts involved to make that perfect. Starting from the construction which holds the Dashboard, the Dashboard in several pieces itself, the door, the inner part of the door and the Door card on top of it -again made up from several trim pieces. When not matched u perfectly with no gap, it looks still not good. So a lot of manufactures skip that and make their life in terms of assembly way easier and efficient.

I actually test drove a Roma at Knockhill, Scorland today. My 2nd time driving one. There is much to like. Faster than you think, lots of grip, always seemed to be in the turbos so always has power on tap. I just sold an FF after 4 years and previous to that I owned a Maserati MC Stradale so the Roma, with it's obvious Maserati Alfieri concept connection, is shaping up to be a likely next car. I am concerned that they are dropping value and so I will likley wait until summer is over and see where they are. I'd rather be patient and try to stop the botton of the depreciation curve, than to lose a load quickly. The 7 year service pack and 2 year warranty offered by Ferrari also makes it worth buying from a main dealer. I don't like the haptic controls but once I had set it where I liked it, they became less imprortant. I had a good look at the white car which is currently the "cheapest in the UK" at £155k and I see why they want to shift it as the white isn't great. It makes the front grill look a bit like a cheap laundry basket where the darker colours help to hide that. I was told that they have stopped coupe production while the push the Roma Spyder and that the Portofino M has also stopped to allow the Spyder on the same production line. My main concern is that many don't "get" the Roma and so it is in danger of dropping value. This is great of you want one in 3 or 4 years from now as they may well be the bargain of the range but it makes it tough to predict when is the optimum time to buy. Add in higher interest rates and economic uncertainty and that fuels my concern. Ultimately I think I will buy one, it's when, not if.

I have test driven a Roma but it didn’t impart any sense of involvement unlike my own Ferrari! My car is a 1988 Mondial 3.2 QV Coupe with 270bhp V8 and manual gearbox. It’s the 7th Ferrari I’ve owned since 1984, and it’s just hit 76,400 miles of which 6,500 miles are mine. I bought it at £31,000 in Sept 2019. I love it. It has no power-steering which isn’t an issue except on some parking. It’s plenty fast enough especially on in-gear acceleration & sounds epic! I bought this after a 1993 Mondial 3.4t coupe, which requires engine-out servicing, at £2,500 +! The 3.2 is far cheaper to maintain with servicing at £300 to £800 plus vat pa. The £800 is for a cambelt service every 3years at a Main Ferrari dealer. On a Roma the first 7 years servicing is free. I felt cramped in it and it was not light and airy compared to my Mondial. JayEmm has tested a Mondial so watch that next! Chris Harris has a 3.2 which he loves enough to be doing a full restoration of. I’ve had four 308GT4’s too, which are good handling. The 1988 Mondial has ABS which I think is essential in today’s traffic. At a Silverstone Ferrari only track event mine accelerated to 140mph and there was more to go! More than enough for a fun car. Try any manual gearbox Ferrari to get the best driving experience!

Very entertaining review. You've got a way of doing this that makes the 40 minutes fly by. It helps that there's good subject matter, what's not to like about a Ferrari. To be clear I am not a Ferrari customer and never will be, so watching 40 minutes on one shouldn't really be. Gripes? I don't get the big messy screen that's in new cars. And especially in this what $250,000 Ferrari it doesn't have Android Auto but it has all this other tech? I'm not really into tech in my cars. I like to drive, my car has a six-speed manual a flat six, and no driving aids except for ABS. But even though I'm not in a tech in the cars, I pulled the factory radio out of my car and installed the PCCM Plus double din. Sometimes instead of the engine I like to listen to podcasts or some music even. It makes sense to have the nav and the tech, and once you've used Android Auto or CarPlay it's hard to go back. I know, I know it's stupid to compare apples to oranges or to whinge about no car play or Android Auto in a car I'll never sit in let alone drive, but there's more. The car sounds like a twin turbo V8 I guess, and you said you would add aftermarket exhaust I have no idea what that would cost but I imagine a lot, so again disappointing that table stakes for this kind of car aren't included at that price. My car had the same problem and I bought it but I replaced the entire exhaust system of low flow cats headers and valve boxes, I think the whole thing installed was about 3,500. And every price point has its problems as even I can see from my comparison. I also think it's nice that has a boot and fold down seats, but two plus two coupes are huge these days it's not just Porsche, Ferraris there too. I would however take your black one or dark blue whatever that is. It looks fast just sitting there. The Roma is definitely a good looking car and more to my taste than most modern cars. I like a more rounded gentle profile (hey there ladies) and it seems like most cars especially performance cars these days are all jagged ends and lines and squares and angles. Me no like. Thanks for the entertainment and the review James. Like I said I'm not a ferrari customer and never will be but there's nothing wrong with some casual voyeurism hahaha. Another thing that I didn't really like is I think you called it torque vectoring, I mean if you have all that power but the tires can't handle it so just so you can have bragging rights you have more power than anyone would ever need and then you just reduce the power of the engine when it might spin the tires? Seems like a waste. I guess with these modern heavy cars more horsepower is good, but I bet 400 or 450 would be tons in that car. But it doesn't sound good in the marketing brochures...

Jay, I really hope you have a DB12 review in the works for us, as I think this would be the perfect review pairing. I myself am contemplating between the two, I'm waiting for my dealer to receive a DB12 demo so I can see it in the metal. Waiting for part two, I hope it's not next week!

Lucky guy. Personally (and I don't normally rate them) I think the DB12 will be better.

I thought and commented the same. Jay, if you see this, this has my vote too. 🙋🏽♂️

Unfortunately I was not invited on the DB12 launch but hopefully once customer cars get delivered I may be offered one

I'd take the Aston over the Roma, which is not to say the Roma is bad.

@@JayEmmOnCars Can we do a poll or something to tell Aston to give you a god damn DB12? I need a real review!

loved the intro on the "most controversial ferrari of the decade... wait"

Great review for part 1 James, nice to hear how the Roma goes on British roads. Thank you. After that intro I'm kinda hoping you've got Arrivederci Roma cued up for part 2 😁

I think the reason i love this despite hating Ferrari’s policy is the Conspiracy Theory on Shmee about this car

The intro was too majestic. Dope!!!

looks extremely good in a light metalic/or pearlescent color. No ferrari shields on the fenders, please.. 😬😎

It seems great for a guy who wants a Ferrari (or a sports car/GT mix) but doesn't want or cannot justify buying one of the crazy mid engined supercars

I knew eventually, you would do a review of this car.... Have a blessed weekend

Excellent review, as per usual, Jay. I've never owned an F-car (I own a 993, Cayman R, and Mas QP5 Sport GTS), though I follow the marque. I can say, at my age and lifestyle, this model appeals to me more than the other current F-models. I used to hanker for an FF or Lusso, but that PTU stuff turns me off even though I realize there are aftermarket fixes available. I'm happy with the analogue P-cars that I have, and still love the QP5 GTS after 5 years of ownership. All the tech is great until it fails after the warranty expires.

I know this isn’t breaking news to you but god damn that Scud looks incredible.

11:00 That's to avoid finger amputation... Also, gaps aren't evil incarnated, when styled properly. Like the side panels gap on the LaFerrari.

Anyway, brilliant review. And i'm glad that they replaced the California with this.

I loved driving this car (and loving my new career as a hand-model)! Truly brilliant car in all the ways you say... Electrical faults aside. And it was in my fave spec 😁

You just need to find your hand model twin now😂

Great review. If I had endless money I might buy a Roma, but it feels as much like a technology purchase as an automotive one. In 10 years it will be antiquated, while something like a 328 or Daytona will be regarded as appreciating assets and icons. It may not be fair to Ferrari, but I’ve always thought of them as forever keeper cars. You don’t replace a 512bb with something more modern. You get something more modern and keep the 512 as a special car. Same with some of the air-cooled Porsches: a new Cayenne is the better daily driver but a long hood 911S is a forever car. Again if money is no object, drive a Roma for three years and then upgrade. Pretty car and amply quick for any public roads.

This is one of the few modern Ferraris I like (with the FF/GTC4), but that color is a shame.

I had an Alfa Romeo Giulia it did all the weird electrical nonsense, I found it so frustrating I got rid of it after 6 months. I had a handful of Mercedes and Porsche's prior and none of them gave weird error messages ever, they just worked every day. I love Italian cars but I aren't sure I could have one as my only car again, I would definitely have a Ferrari as a weekend warrior though. One day..
