The new $435,000 Ferrari 12Cilindri has been named to celebrate the naturally aspirated V12. Because a dozen cylinders arranged in a V is both at the heart of this car and of Ferrari the company. However, the celebration seems to be as much about the simple fact of its continued existence in 2024 as it is the power it puts out.
The F140HD engine makes 819bhp and 500lb ft of torque. It will also now rev to 9500rpm thanks to lighter internals such as titanium con rods. That's 600rpm and 30bhp up on the old 812 Superfast but its figures are almost identical to the special edition Competizione. In fact it has slightly less torque than both. Why has it not made a huge leap on? Well, emissions regulations are making it harder and harder for this engine to breathe and there is a general feeling that we should perhaps just be thankful that it is still being produced. After all I’m not sure anyone has ever described an 812 as needing more power…
Of perhaps more concern is that legislation has also meant that the engine can’t sound quite as raucous as before. That’s not to say it doesn’t give your ears something pretty wonderful to listen to, particularly at higher revs and on more aggressive gearshifts, but there is less volume and edge to the soundtrack in general. Talking of the gearshifts, one of the bigger changes mechanically is the switch to the new eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox (seen previously in the 296 GTB and others), which not only has five per cent shorter ratios in the lower gears, but also offers 30 per cent faster shift times.
The styling of the 12Cilindri has been quite the talking point since it was unveiled and seeing it in the wild amongst other traffic on the roads of Luxembourg it looked even more striking. The launch cars were all painted in Giallo Montecarlo, which certainly contrasted strongly with the black sections of the bodywork such as the 365 GTB/4 (Daytona) inspired nose. Interestingly Ferrari is aligning the 12 Cilindri more with the Roma in terms of its range of cars, leaning slightly away from outright performance and more towards style.
You can feel that when you drive it as well. The performance is still absolutely there, with 0-62mph arriving in 2.9sec, but the slightly quieter, more refined atmosphere in the cabin just lends a bit more of a GT feel than before. In the corners there is still the trademark sharpness in the steering, but again it feels just a smidgen less flighty than the 812 Superfast, particularly when you don’t have the manettino dialled to Race or above.
In terms of its competitors, well, you can see Henry Catchpole’s review of the Lamborghini Revuelto elsewhere on the Hagerty channel and he should be driving the new Aston Martin Vanquish very soon…
We hope you enjoy this film. If you do, then please think about giving it a thumbs up, leaving a comment or sharing it with others - it really does help. And if you would like to know more about the Hagerty Drivers Club then you can just click on this link… www.hagerty.co...

I couldn't agree more. However I'll still take the B12 with the manual and an incredibly Spartan old school interior. I can tell you this much I'm tired of looking at screens and cars. The novelty wore off quite some time ago. All you need is a big tach, speedometer a couple of important gauges and radio with air conditioning and heat control. Beyond that keep it.

It's sooo wide. Not a very practical car. Even in the USA, a car that is almost 7' 2", or 2176mm wide, is ridiculous. That makes it as wide as an F150. As wide as a pickup truck. Why.

It's an evolution of the previous 812, which had a width of 77.6 with folded mirrors. The figure you are using is for "812C" is with the mirrors extended; its body width with folded mirrors should similar to the 2024 812. Maximum body width for a passenger vehicle for the USA is no wider than 80 inches. At 80 inches and more, amber running lights distinct from other body lights are required. You don't see those here. Or, possibly, that light install could be overlooked if sales numbers are low enough. Even so, most supercars over the last 25 years have been nearly at 80 inches of width, just like the US fullsize pickup.

I don’t care what anybody says, 12Cilindri is a sexy ass car; I love the 365 brow in the front, and the mass of black in the back. It’s a sexy retro futuristic mix. The name, when spoken/pronounced in Italian like it *should* be, is also cool and properly exotic and posh lol. The only problem to me, is the quieter soundtrack due to pesky pesky legislation.

Amazing styling. I love the straight lines seen at the front facia, it gives the car a retrofuturistic and even somewhat muscular look. The rear lights also follow a very straight line, they even connected the 3rd brake light to the rear lights. I love that. I also like how they connected the lines of the DRLs with the side air vents. This has to be my favorite looking Ferrari that has come in recent years, very cohesive and connected design.

Idk how people can look at the roma with its braces face and weird tailights and think it looks good while looking at the 12 cylinder and say its ugly. The only really ugly part of the 12 cylinder is the rear tail lights and short deck codatronca design that it inherited from the roma. The front end being a lot more daytona inspired is by far the best part.

The appearance, or design of this car though very nice, doesn't say to me Ferrari! I think they really toned down the racing, sporty aspect which included the muffled exhaust Henry spoke of. I do think they are aiming this at the GT market buyer who wants the big engine in a design that doesn't say Ferrari. If I looked at this car from a distance, I would have no clue it was a Ferrari, and this too is a reason for the design, it's not noticeable so people aren't going to be bothering you with their unwanted attention as you'd have in a SF90, or an Aventador. 👍✌🗽

Michelin sport tires have such wide blocks, on both the inner and outer edges of the tires (no vertical lines), they finally decided to add these to their new PS5 line... . FWIW - If you run any amount of negative camber (for the track/spirited driving setup) you wear the tires out unevenly, and there was never an easy (visual) way to check. . Hopefully other manufacturers add these to their own molds (at least with their new sport tires 🙏)
