Spent five years in Shanghai, loved it. Still in China may years later. About the low crime level- not simply about cameras, also consider the ancient traditions and societal culture. People are not involved with crime, or conflict or aggression. Mostly kind and accommodating- you will witness more as you travel around. So, good to see people with open minds adventuring and enjoying China with their first experiences. 😀

They are as familiar as wild dogs and are extremely close to you. The epidemic situation in three years has made everyone see the face of Shanghai people

I lost a 1500AUD helmet in Sydney. For there was no camera and the police told me there was no way to find it. I need to clarify that China's 'Skynet' system has almost brought crime in China down to a shocking rate, in China you can't even see the police chasing the car, because the police just have to let him go and check the surveillance camera later, the surveillance does not record the voice, it does not affect normal people, in China except criminals, no one worries about the camera. The West's fear of cameras is based on media disinformation and the fact that cameras in Western countries are often operated by private security companies rather than the police, which is very different in China
so TRUE, what kind of person scared of camera.....criminals.

@@linwoodhucse628 I studied in Canberra, Australia for 4 years. My bicycle was stolen and I was harassed by homeless people and teenagers. But I never encountered such things in the two years I was in China. The Chinese police even used surveillance to find my mobile phone stolen by the waiter in the breakfast shop within half an hour. For rich people, the whole world is safe, but for ordinary people, the speed of Chinese police handling cases makes me think China is safer.
Don't your country install cameras in public places? If it is incomprehensible to Chinese people that there are no cameras in public places, is it because the government has no money to install them, or does it not want to maintain public safety? If you think there are eyes staring at you behind the camera, then you overestimate yourself. You are just an ordinary person. No one will care about you or pay attention to you. These camera data will only be used when a case or public safety incident occurs. As long as you don't try to do anything illegal, you don't have to worry about these cameras at all.

Mooncakes in China vary by region, each offering distinct flavors and fillings. Cantonese-style mooncakes, like the one from the hotel, are the most common, featuring a soft crust with sweet fillings such as lotus seed paste, red bean paste, or salted egg yolk. Some also contain mixed nuts or dried fruits. The Shanghai-style, like the one you bought, has a flakier crust and often includes savory fillings like pork, though sweet versions exist. Other notable varieties include Suzhou mooncakes, with layered pastry and mixed fillings, and the savory Yunnan ham mooncakes. Pork floss is made by stewing pork in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, and spices until tender. The cooked pork is then shredded and stir-fried or dry-fried over low heat, allowing the moisture to evaporate. This process creates a light, fluffy texture, resulting in a savory, slightly sweet meat floss often used as a topping or filling in various dishes.

As a Brit having lived in Shanghai for the past 28 years I really enjoy watching the reactions of foreign visitors to my (new) home city and in fact to China in general. It's an amazing country and as someone who has traveled to many countries (as a photographer) not only the Top 3 most photogenic (geographically and culturally) but definitely the safest. Not one incident in 28 years.
So glad that you have found a new home in China. 28 years is a long time to go without any incidents. But, you are a Brit, and so to us you will always look like a foreigner. As a foreigner, you are a guest in our country. Of course you know by now that Chinese greatly value hospitality. As long as you behave with normal courtesy, you will always be treated well. You are our guest, and you deserve to be treated as well as possible. BTW, after such a long time, I must assume that your putonghua must be pretty good by now. I often find Chinese speaking foreigners greeting non Chinese speaking foreigners and offering help with directions and translation and such. I hope you are doing this too. After all, you are really one of us now, haha.

Therefore, Chinese people can hardly accept Western authentic sweets, while Westerners find Chinese desserts very bland😂

LOL, I can tell that Karolina was pretty nervous when she passed the ferry security check with her hands up.

Well, moped/motorbikes/scooters riding on the sidewalks are common in many parts of China. When I was in Hainan in 2019, the motorbikes not only ran on the sidewalks, but cross the street along with pedestrians. So, it's quite challenging that you need to see ALL DIRECTIONS to make sure you're not going to be crushed over 🤣

Gee rhymes with 姬, which means beauty in Mandarin. It also means concubine.
