I`ve been a musician all my life. Spent 9 years back in the 70`s in a 8 piece group in Honolulu, Hi. One night this guy ( Bobby Hatfield ) came in and wanted to sit in. He stood right next to me and sang this song. He was FANTASTIC! ( the band also killed it!) I`m sure no one in that crowd will ever forget that performance. One of the extreme highlights of my music career. Still gives me chills.

@@theresarandall7448 Agreed. IMO the ever-present activities of most all background dancers adds nothing at all to the songs and is simply an annoying distraction , IMO. The reaction of most ladies even today indicates how gifted both these incredible artists were when they first appeared on the scene. I know a lot of guys over the t=-years have said the same thing "Man! I wish I had that voice", referring to BOTH artists. I sure did and I was singer a few years ago. My voice was in the range of the baritine, Bill Medly. Even though I have the same vocal range, I do NOT have his pure soul. I have never heard anyone who did or does even now. One syllable and his voice is instantly recognized by anyone who lived through their era. Bobby Hatfield was not even in a 'field of of singers'; he was the ONLY man with a voice, delivery, and a purely natural presentation like that. Their teaming up created a never-to-be repeated emotional experience. God in His wisdom, broke the mold after Bill and Bobby.
@chuckcarles82883 жыл бұрын
I am 81 and have heard several artist before Bobby’s version and several after. No one comes close to this, Bobby owns it. This version came out as I was headed for Viet Nam. You can feel the loneliness in the words and the way we felt as we were away from our families for one long year. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of there albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do “Unchained”, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we now. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.

There are always parts where it doesn't match up exactly. Watch at @ and @, his stops singing but the singing continues, for just a little bit. Third, the recording equipment back them was primitive compared to today and it would have been nearly impossible, on a live performance, to exactly balance the volume all of the various instruments and his voice like they are balanced here. Also, televisions stations back then didn't want to take a chance that a wrong note would be sung and would insist on lip synching. Back in the day, you got one instrument and you dedicated your life to it. These days you can download an entire studio and most people don't spend as much time with the entire suite than people back in the days spent on one single device. They are happy, despite not being played on the radio.
@michaelrowell77984 жыл бұрын
Spot on, today social media allows budding artists who may have taken years to come to light to be in our faces almost immediately, but the flip side is that is dilutes the talent pool so much. The kids that perform today have not earned their dues in any way shape or form, that's not their fault it's just that the music industry is out of synch with today's market. There is little time taken to develop and nurture craft and musicianship, nowadays if you look good and can even half hold a tune you are marketed as a "big thing". Too much is getting "dumbed down" for the sake of just getting content out there and maximising profits..

Anyways, this was a solo song so they flipped a coin... but it was still very much a team effort because Bill arranged the music for both the studio version and for this live version, and he also played the piano in the musical backing. I’ve left more info in the general comments section for this video, if you’re interested ...

I’ve heard numerous artists have a bash at singing this song, but none of the could ever reach the high notes that he did so effortlessly! He makes it seem so easy but it really isn’t! Beautiful!

PLEASE LISTEN to LeAnn Rhimes. I think that MAYBE (??) she might be the ONLY Other Singer who does justice to this BEAUTIFUL SONG, But FOR SURE The Righteous Brothers VERSION WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST 👌 VERSION To EVER BE RECORDED (EVER). His BEAUTIFUL 💙 BLUE EYES ARE SO DREAMY, may he Rest In Peace. 💔 😢

My dad took my younger brother & me to see their show in our small Appalachian Tennessee town. It was my first concert, and I fell in love with not only my dad again, but also this new “Blue Eyed Soul”, as it was known at the time. I was over the moon happy! Thanks for the memories, Jamel! There’s a reason why I so love your reaction videos, and it’s why yours are the only reactions I watch!😊

Truth doesn't have to try hard. Bobby was feeling every word of this heartfelt song. In turn I felt the Love he expressed so honestly.

This was an era where people had to be able to sing. Performing half naked wasn't even an option. And I made a mistake during your last reaction. It was this song that someone suggested that Dimash sing. Either one would make my day.

Actually, this song was written and recorded for a prison movie in 1955. The movie was called "Unchained," so the song was "Unchained Melody." The Righteous Brothers did not write the song, nor were they the first to sing or record it.

No lip synching, no studio filters just a man ,a mic talent and soul. Nuff said! The song was put out way before ghost. You are looking at the beginnings of authentic blue eyed soul.

You're exactly right, soul isn't a color it's something that comes naturally, it's a feeling that gives you the ability to express something from the heart and make the listener feel exactly what you're talking about, take Chris Stapleton and Tennessee Whiskey, that is soul, love me some soul music!!

I don't know how many times i rewatched this song but when i watch it it seems like it's always the 1st time I've seen the video even though i already saw the video but for me its always amazing. that's how amazing the song is and thats how amazing Bobby is i love the righteous brothers And how Bobby put the microphone very far away to his mouth it's amazing It's like 9 feet away to his mouth. Sorry guys if anyone sees this comment I might have been a little bit exaggerated but that's how incredible hes singing is that's how incredible he pushed his microphone so far away and seems like it's very close to his mouth. away to his mouth and it seems like it's nothing to him for bobby it's simple.

@@greeneyes92061 Yes, but it was funny, don't take it personally, it happens to all of us sooner or later - someone ought to make a list and video of funny "auto corrections" - this would be among the best because if you think of it, it could have been a deliberate mistake. It works!
