I must have watched almost a hundred different reactions to this track alone, and I *still* get chills when the beat switches up on Pete's second verse. Even when the novelty starts to wear off, the songs seriously hold up. Some of my favorite rap in a very long time, purely on the merits of their writing and delivery.

They use a lot of UK Drill slang (mash, bing, nenk, dot-dot, etc), as well as Cockney Rhyming Slang, and on top of that they have cultural references. "Mess with the cake and I'll battenberg him" - Battenberg is a type of cake that has a checkerboard pattern made by slicing up and rearranging the pieces. In the UK ambulances have a checkerboard pattern, and to "battenberg" is to put someone in an ambulance. So with the two together it's "mess with my money/ladies/product and I'll slice you up and rearrange you and put you in an ambulance."

The tall one is Bas (short for Basil). They got introduced to rap from their grandkids, who help them with the modern lingo, but they write their own bars. They have so many good tracks. Thanks for the reaction!

To add to this: Sindhuworld, who runs that YT channel, is the corner store owned by Uncle Bal (he's in the Windowframe cyphers), and Bas used to give him piano lessons. Uncle Bal's son had been making goofy rap videos for the store and since P&B were getting into the music they all decided to try and start the old guys up rapping. There's actually an old article on Vice from 2017 just about Sindhuworld that mentions Bas briefly in passing, before the rapping started.

So Sindhuworld (who runs that YT channel) is a corner store run by a guy named Uncle Bal. Bas, the tall one, used to give him piano lessons. Uncle Bal's son had been making rap videos to advertise the store and they got the idea to let Pete and Bas make a rap video just as a goof, but they turned out to be really damn good and enjoyed it, so they kept going. They aren't making all this stuff fully solo, they get help just like any other rapper, but it really is them. They also like to play up the idea of being old Peaky Blinders style gangsters but it's hard to know what's real and what's not in their history. Just enjoy the show, because the music is CRAZY good lmao

I wouldn't state any of this as facts. Uncle bal started running the store later.. Sindhuworld existed some time before he made his first appearance. It pointless trying to make sense of it, the whole story of Pete and Bas has become twisted like chinese whispers..

@@deanosaur808 Yeah, the whole thing is so hard to sort out, all I know for sure is that Handsome Dexter is heavily involved in the production, and he's a White Brit and fairly young, he's on all the live performances behind the decks. I tried to sort it all out, but keep getting lost in contradictions. Bal is supposed to be the Nephew of the guy who owned Sindu World (the Bodega, not the channel). The only things I believe for sure is they are 100% doing the vocals, which was a question early on, not positive they write or even work out the cadences of their delivery... even if all they are doing is performing, its still massively impressive. Fuck if I could deliver half of Bas's best lines like the "Four-man down in the four-door, Four-by-four with the four-wheel drive engaged" line from Shuffle, I can't even say it let alone quickly.

Bas did do time in prison, there is a video of his release. Pete is allegedly an old former member of the London underground but since retired.

@@NA1c158 I highly doubt Bas was in jail, anyone can walk away from a jail and video it. The whole Sindu World Universe (SWU) as I call it is 99% fiction, and that's fine by me, it's all very fun and enjoyable. If you look into the history of the channel and the people there are so many contradictory facts it's impossible to know what is really real without being part of the whole fiction.

Pete's granddaughter kept changing the stations in his car and eventually he just gave up changing them back and it grew on him. Then one day Bas was in the car while it was playing and Bas suggested that they could do it. Pete told Bas he was being stupid but Bas was being stubborn and ended up writing Shut Your Mouth anyway. It went viral so they decided to just roll with it.
