Haha I graduated in '71 and next week I'll be 71! The music of the 60s and 70s is still a great joy and comfort to me, and I still feel 1965-1975 was the greatest 10-year span in popular music history. So many diverse sounds and styles, all hitting at the same time! Hey Jamal, another great song that celebrates music is David Crosby's "Music is Love" off his fantastic "If Only I Could Remember My Name" album. Neal Young is singing background on it with him.

@Mona.5554 жыл бұрын
Jamel, you said “Why can’t we get it together?” I really think the reason why we had so much incredible music in the 70’s is because, we actually were “getting it together”. Black, white, Hispanic, Asian and everyone else that’s gonna get offended by me saying this. All of us that were young adults and older, when this song came out, will understand what I’m saying. This new found appreciation for each other is what inspired a lot of this great music. Listen to “Everyday People” by Sly & The Family Stone. You’ve only touched your toe in the water of the lake of great music from this era. There was a lot of songs about peace, love and harmony. America was finally trying to recognize the divisiveness of racial relations There were still many problems, but there was an air of “we can do this, if everyone participates and get’s it together”. I’m sorry if I didn’t state it exactly the way others think I should have. Get over it. That’s the way we said it to be part of the conversation. Then the politicians stepped in. Need I say more? No I don’t. Just like today. Everyone has an agenda. It’s really sad. We were going in the right direction back then, in the 70’s. I could write a book and I’m sure someone will be mad at me. I’m old enough to know that nowadays, everyone is too quick to judge and dismiss others. Worry about your own heart instead of bullying everyone else. Everyone makes mistakes in life. That’s life. I know, I haven’t knowingly tried to hurt or make a negative impact on someone else. I’m going to delete this shortly. I’m just sad and mad at what is going on today. Two steps forward and ten steps back. Jamel, you’re a great light in this dark world we have right now. Keep it up, Brother. You give me great hope for rescuing so many dark hearts and bringing us all so much happiness. We need you now…

I'll be 70 in a few more day and I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! You spoke from your heart, therefore, you said it very well. The politicians and rich, powerful people benefiting from tribalism realized they lost the culture wars. They put money, time and effort into pushing us apart. Sir. Watching you react to the music of my era makes my heart jump. This is indicative of the feelings we all had. But, you got to pick out the fro bro. heheh. I had a fro, and I'm white! I carried a pick...heheh... On a side note, Skunk Baxter was a session musician and played for both Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers... back in the seventies there was a genuine affection going on through the music. You were born too late. you have the spirit we all shared. Bless you Jamel. With all the strife, we have today I almost forgot my heart. You bring that joy back. Many Thanks.

Jamel, you weren’t born in the wrong era!! You, my brother were born and are doing what you were put here to do! As a part time musician and instrument builder, for me its all about the passion, love, & understanding we can bring to each other through beautiful ‘living’ music. Please do not stop doing this-positive caring and thoughtful music that makes you smile and dance, all together no matter the cultural background is what we ALL NEED, EVERYDAY!! Explore it all brother as there’s so much more to hear and enjoy, and it warms my heart beyond words to see another soul recognize it 💕

Every time I'm like: just gonna watch one real quick, and every time this phone speaker doesn't do justice, so I stop and plug into a good speaker or headphones. Even for the songs I've known and loved for decades. And then I watch more. Soak in every chord, every bar, every beat, every note! Listen to every song like it's your first time, cherish every song like it's the last time you'll hear!

There’s a song from the 60s called “Get Together” by the Youngbloods that encompasses the hippie era of being united by the music like you just said. Smile on your brother, what the world needs now is love, sweet love ❤️ (that’s another song).

They still nail it in their live shows today, and you can tell just by watching them on stage that they still enjoy what they do. Pat Simmons, in particular, always seems to have this huge grin on his face, like he's just having the greatest and most fun night of his life every night. :)

@@ballyastrocade5672 Well said. I have seen them live though not in recent years. And Pat Simmons who would be lead talent in so many groups seems satisfied and fulfilled to be a significant cog in the wheel that is the Doobies. Good on him.

@@2zxodcfm I saw them just last year, and Simmons is still jumping around on stage and power-chording his way through "Dangerous" when they play it. You'd hardly guess the man is in his 70s! (Would that we could all have half his energy when *we* turn 70... :D ) I'm hoping to see them again later this year on their 50th Anniversary tour, since they'll have both Tom Johnston *and* Michael McDonald -- but of course, that all depends on the frickin' virus between now and then. :(

I was born in 1960. Music was so important to us. We felt it and saw it as the glue that bound us all together, as our group of friends entered our teens. There wasn’t a fast turn over of songs on the radio, so everyone at school knew the words to the same songs. We’d save up money from babysitting or mowing lawns to get a new album. It was a big deal to go to the record store, find the one you were saving for, buy it, carry it home, slit the cellophane, pull out the sleeve, see if the lyrics were included, and play it over and over. So many important songs, many feeling like they were expressing what was in our souls. The songs we listened to defined the world we wanted to live in; thought we were living in. I still have my father’s and older sisters’s albums. Music is still that important to me, and I am so enjoying watching and listening to young people discover some of it for themselves. Thank you for being such a joyful guy. It’s neat knowing music still brings us together.😊

You called it Baby! Listen to the music! My 2 favorite decades were the 60's and 70's-So many singer/songwriters, most everyone played at least one instrument, amazing lyrics and harmonies-so much pure talent. And best of all-so many story songs-purely about love in all it's forms-personal, universal brotherhood, peace, humanity-We were a generation who grew up believing these words, taught our children to believe these words. We still believe and want these things for everyone- Thanks for keeping our music alive and passing it on. Bless you-I love your reactions, your appreciation for pure talent.

the best part of your reactions are usually at the beginning when you instantly recognize the song and your face lights up like you are now enlightened! now you are finding out the faces to go with the tunes. i would say that we didn't know how good we had it in the 60's and 70's but i'd be lying. i knew it then and now!
