Actually the Beatles did NOT say that. George Harrison suggested to John Bonham that they needed a ballad. Jimmy Page wrote the first two chords of the Rain Song as a tribute to George's song "Something". Next time you hear Rain Song, sing "Something in the way she moves..." when it starts. This clip is from their concert film, _The Song Remains the Same,_ which chronicled three shows they did at Madison Square Garden in 1973, and was released in '75. I remember going to see it multiple times. Incredible film. Imagine this on a thirty-foot wide screen. If you love Zep, you cannot miss that movie. Kick back sometime and watch the whole thing. It's the one chance you'll have to see an actual Led Zeppelin concert, presented with the best film techniques of the time. Two and a half hours, all of it incredible. (It includes a 26-minute version of "Dazed and Confused", and 15 minutes of Bonzo's solo drumming on "Moby Dick", plus four fantasy sequences, one for each band member.) You won't regret it. :)

I was shocked!! 50 years have passed and since then I have been waiting unnecessarily for a group of this level to arrive. Of this fabulous piece that I will have listened to thousands of times, I recommend listening to the original of the vinyl and not the live, with the rustle of the stylus spinning on the record! Every time I feel it I get chills and I get moved. For me this is the best song that has ever been written, the best of all time. These 4 artists had no and will never have rivals, their brains and their talents were too far ahead, in 1970 they wrote, composed, played and sang at a level that is still impossible to find in a band today. @@anthonykargoglou7205 Interesting. I would not describe Plant's voice on this as "weak" in any way. There are many, many frontmen who would give their right nuts to sound that "weak." He has certainly sounded cleaner in other versions, but the grit and power--the willingness to force his voice past the breaking point to add soul to the sound--is one of my favorite aspects of his singing. Plus, you never know, or knew, what you were going to get out of him in any particular gig, especially from '73 on. Same for Page, actually. It's Bonham and JPJ that were the backbone of all of it.

I saw them live february 6th 1975 in Montreal Forum, Quebec, Canada. I was 13 yrs of age and my mom and dad were fanatics of that group. My father told me once : Zep reinvented rock music and no one will surpass them. They traced the way for the 70's and 80's rock to come.
Perhaps, the greatest intro guitar solo ever recorded. Oh and Pages second solo is pretty good also. Lol.

I saw Zeppelin live that year. I saw the film 4 times in a row on the day it was released in the cinema in 1976. I have lost count of how many times i have seen it since.

Man I love a heavy kit. It’s like hearing industrial England within American blues it’s just epic, the way they slow down and finish at the end though and that last chord to finish, musical bliss to me.

This is what live, no lip sync, no autotune, real live music used to be - god, I feel sorry for kids today who think they're getting real music from real actual talent.
