Right? I enjoy all kinds of music and love to hear new things and give them a chance and seeing Jamel ride that same journey in front of us is really cool. The members of Pink Floyd went trough some stuff and they captured those times through their music. As much as I feel Rogers Waters might have been a pain to work with, he had a vision of what the entire story an album should tell and that's what's sets Pink Floyd apart from many other bands. I've watched a few videos of Roger Waters on KZbin and he seems to show some animosity over things that were done or said and who knows what happened to alienate him from the group. As technology advanced I think Pink Floyd could have done even more incredible things had they been able to stay together. Gilmour has smooth style of guitar and singing and Waters countered that with an edginess using his voice and song tempo. Jamel can come over to my house anytime and listen to this music (I don't think we live that far apart actually). I think he would love to watch "The Wall" movie by Pink Floyd since he seemed to enjoy the artwork done in this video.

Hey, this is only half of the song! The song is split into multiple parts, half of which are played at the beginning of the album, the second half played at the end. I highly HIGHLY recommend listening to the second half of the song (Parts VI - IX). In fact, I would actually recommend listening to the entire album of "Wish You Were Here" from start to finish. You will not be disappointed. It is UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. Pink Floyd is an "album band," in that their music is best enjoyed by listening to the album as a whole, cohesive unit. For example, Dark Side of the Moon really needs to be heard from start to finish. Some excellent tracks on it, but you really don't "experience" it until you listen to it from front to back. It can actually make you feel like you're high, this band was incredible.

An Austrian songwriter once wrote another version of your vision. Someday, a long time after the last ultimate big bang, an alien species will come to Earth carrying pills against sadness as a gift to mankind. And they will find a movie projector showing a Mickey Mouse movie. And after the aliens watched the movie, they said to each other: 'They were funny those humans. They looked funny and they talked funny. If mankind would still exist, we would have bring them our pills against sadness for absolutely nothing.' But I like your vision much better.

I am a 58 year old Canadian. I had the pleasure of seeing Pink Floyd twice (1987 and 1988). The best experience at the Montreal Forum was, after the house lights came up and some people started to leave, people were still cheering. The lights came down, and they came back on stage to perform Shine on You Crazy Diamond for another 20 minutes. Magical experience, and an utter thrill. Keep up the great posts, as they are truly pleasing to watch.

A tribute to Syd Barrett, their original lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He only performed on one full album with the band, their debut album, Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Only one song of his appears on their second album. Beyond that, he became the inspiration for much of the band's later material. You owe it to yourself to look up some of the band's early stuff, as well as some of Syd's solo material, in order to get a better idea of what they're all about and how the whole Pink Floyd experience came to be.

@Revelator20255 жыл бұрын
Here we go: Syd was Pink Floyd’s creative force, writing their songs, charismatic lead singer/frontman, guitar player etc. His intellect, creative inspiration & musical vision were key to Floyd early recognition and flowering success story. When he turned up after being unreachable by the band, something had happened to Syd. His personality, his spark and presence was no more. Likely a dormant schizo-affective blown wide open by the use of too much LSD or other drugs he was ingesting-in copious amounts created by chemist friends he was living amongst. Just at the point of recognition and chart success, he became a frustrating liability and faded into the shadows... Syd’s creative influence with the unexpected loss of such an integral member, drove Pink Floyd into developing their own sound. It served to expand psychological depths of emotional communication in their songwriting and musical content. ‘Shine on You Crazy Diamond” held the greatest meaning for them -to acknowledge and pay tribute to Syd Barrett.

I’m an old school rock guy that bought this album as soon as it came out. I still have the vinyl version and my Techniques direct drive turntable to play it on. As I said in the Great Gig In the Sky video it is a must to listen to the whole album at one time because it is a rock opera that tells the story of former band member, Syd Barrett’s decent into madness. David Gilmore’s guitar playing touches the deepest recesses of one’s soul. I have Pink Floyd’s albums on my ipod and still love listening to them. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition written by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright. It appeared on Pink Floyd's 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. The song is written about and dedicated to Syd Barrett, who left the band in 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. The song was conceived and written as a tribute and remembrance to their former band member Syd Barrett, a founding member of Pink Floyd. Barrett was ousted from the band by the other members in 1968 due to his drug use and troubled mental health, which had affected his ability to integrate with the rest of the band and perform and create as a musician. He was replaced by David Gilmour, Barrett's former school friend who had initially been brought in as second guitar. The remaining band members felt guilty for removing him, but they viewed it as necessary, admiring Barrett's creativity and being concerned about his severe mental decline. The work was first performed on their 1974 French tour and recorded for their 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. It was intended to be a side-long composition (like "Atom Heart Mother" and "Echoes") but was split into two sections and used to bookend the album, with new material composed that was more relevant to the album and to the situation in which the band found themselves.

The visuals to this video were done by none other than the great Gerald Scarfe, an artist that Floyd hooked up with and worked with in various capacities from about 1974 onwards. He created most, if not all of the animated artwork that has been projected onto their screens in concert ever since. If you ever watch the film, Pink Floyd The Wall, all of the animated sequences were also done by him and in fact, many sequences that appear in it were actually extracted from this very video you just listened to. Most of the non-animated artwork associated with The Floyd, including their album covers, were done by the late great Storm Thorgerson, part of the duo of artists who went by the name of Hypgnosis, who also did many other ground-breaking album covers throughout the 70's and 80's. Not having yet watched any of your videos more recent that this one, I don't know if you've yet watched it or seen it, but Gerald's video to Welcome To the Machine is truly amazing. I just recently discovered you and am working on catching up to the present day. Great channel. Keep up the good work!!
