Took my mother to see him. She was 66 years old then and had been one of his biggest fans since the early 70's. We ended up with nosebleed seats so I took my enormous binoculars so she could see him. During a short break on stage David began waving and pointing up where we were sitting and mom started squealing and waving back. Apparently he noticed the reflections from the lenses (picture two huge purple eyeballs) and figured only a real fan would lug those things around just to see him. Whether he really was waving at her or not, that was one of the happiest moments of her life. There will never be another David Bowie. The man. The myth. The legend.

@HardNews TV4 Check out the liner notes on Texas Flood; SRV thanks Bowie. If Bowie and NIle Rodgers hadn't seen SRV in Montreaux, SRV & Double Trouble might have spent another two or three years playing bars in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston. The fact is that SRV was not able to come to an arrangement on touring with Bowie on the subsequent Bowie tour because of his own commitments being on the brink of mega-stardom with Texas Flood getting ready to debut. Think about this: what would Layton and Shannon have done with SRV backing up Bowie all over the world for the next 10-14 months? As it is, it all worked out for the best; I mean only guitar geeks like me even know who Earl Slick (SRV's replacement on the Bowie tour--and an unrecognized god himself!!) is.

If someone asked me for my definition of “cool,” I’d play them this song. Bowie was a master. Lucky to have seen him live in 2002. Onstage he was a magician of sound and vision. Check out one of my favorite songs/albums by him: “Station to Station.” It’s pretty epic. Was in his “thin white duke” stage persona at the time. Cheers!

Bowie's natural singing voice was a higher end baritone, with a very pleasant and surprisingly high falsetto. Sounds like two people, but it's all Bowie. One of the greatest artists in rock music. Glad you enjoyed it, Bowie was a treasure.
