He did. There were 4 or 5 songs on that demo, and I've always wondered what the other songs were. Stories differ on whether or not Col. Parker ever played it for Elvis, but yeah, Elvis would've rocked this.

“Golden Years” was released in 1975 and Elvis passed away in 1977. Elvis was presented a demo of the song, but turned it down.

"Stay" is nothing but a masterpiece ! The whole "Station to station" album is something you can build a whole career upon. And there's only 6 songs in it!

All correct of course ---and completely nuts just the same...it somehow rose to #3 on the Billboard album chart, his best showing to that point, with just the six tracks and no true smash hit single I never even got around to listening to it until I was past 40 (although I dwelt close enough to the studio where he recorded most of it that I could have walked there without having to cross any street at a light), and it's just monumental

WILD IS THE WIND. Early black and white video. David said in interview that this was one of his best songs that fits his voice. Great lyric "Like the leaf clings to the tree, oh my darling cling to me". My favorite Bowie song.

The way Lex describes songs is spot on. As a writer, I can just imagine exactly what she is talking about even if it doesn’t make literal sense. When she said the song is oozing, that’s exactly the feeling of it. The song is so smooth but alive at the same time. It’s definitely a song that just oozes feelings.

I'll never forget picking up a greatest hits CD on a black Friday. It was $1. At the time I liked a couple of songs. I didn't know that much about him or his music. I'm more of a hard rock guy but damn If I didn't like every song on it. I wore that CD out, I played it that much. It was setup with his hits chronologically. It shocked me how much I liked his music.

Bowie loved to take on different identities during his career. He was Ziggy Stardust, and Aladdin Sane, and Halloween Jack, and he ended up as the Blind Prophet. "Golden Years" and "Fame" are from when he was the Thin White Duke, almost like a stylish, dilettante, lounge singer, who flirted with soul and funk but had a darker edge. "Golden Years" is from the album "Station to Station", where the opening lyrics from the first and title track are, "The return of the Thin White Duke, throwing darts in lovers' eyes." I love the "painter of music" description.
