This has gotta be my favorite Deep Purple track. Ritchies intro riff was just way ahead of its time.. that vibrato control is unreal. Don't forget about Jon Lord! Dang man, glad you had a chance to witness this.

Space Truckin is a great follow up song to Lazy on this album. And of course Smoke On The Water is probably their most known song which has a great intro before any lyrics, also on the same album.

I prefer the Made in Japan version of Smoke, it's a bit quicker. Probably prefer it as it's the first version I heard, there's that little departure thing Blackmore did early on, love it.

This was the first album I ever bought. It was so good that I have worn out 3 copies. I also took a pilgrimage to Montreux. I had shivers all over my body the day I was there. Freddie was a bonus. Also some fine looking scenery there too, if you know what I mean.

I'm still pushing for Strange Kind of Woman from MiJ. The live arrangement with the call and response between Ritchie and Ian is absolutely brilliant. This was one of my father's favorite songs, though not a musician himself, he had many friends who were, of those that played guitar, he would grin ear-to-ear watching their reactions (sound familiar, Jamal ? LOLl), when he'd put on this song, if they'd never it before. My father was one of the last of the great patrons. If he liked your band, he'd show up to see you play with friends & ready to start the party. He was always great fun to be with, always in the center of the action. I miss him very much since he died in 2014. Today is his 75th birthday, and unlike the last few yrs, his absence is strongly felt in a way that I haven't felt since the first yr he was gone. Thank you for giving this song a listen. I requested and hoped you would discover them. Jon Lord's sound and playing on the Hammond organ may have been imitated by some over the years but nobody comes close to the original. He was major influence in my musical development. He passed away in 2012 but his music and sound are forever

Very talented and under rated band. I always viewed them as being just as good as zepplin. Ian Gillam is one of the best rock singers of all time and Richie Blackmore is a great guitar player and then there was the late great Lord on the keyboards. I saw Deep Purple during the Perfect Stranger tour. Man! My grandfather turned me on to Deep Purple when I was an early teen with the live Made in Japan album. Changed my life forever. Lazy, Highway Star, and Child in Time are my favorite tracks on that album. It just kicks some serious ass.

This was my favorite band when i was a teen with Led Zeppelin was #2 favorite. Saw Deep Purple in Aug 1972 at the Civic Arena, incredible concert!!!! Then again in 1974, Mach 3, Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland! Again incredible. Went to the concert with a girl i really liked who became my wife 3 years later ! ;-) We're in our 60's and still love Deep Purple and Led!!

Un consejo para apreciar la verdadera dimensión de Deep Purple hay que escucharlos siempre en vivo y si son versiones del Made in Japan muchísimo mejor, es el mejor disco grabado en vivo de la historia...., y nos da la verdadera dimensión y grandeza del grupo en absoluto estado de gracia. Saludos

Another 1 of my very favorites from the "old days"! This has to be Ritchie's all-time smoothest solo, in a career filled with great guitar work. It's blues, but really bordering on jazz. Timeless & incredible! Jamel, you mean you don't react to anything unless others are reacting? I understand about not wanting to get blocks/strikes, but then on the other hand, how do you find any new music that no one's yet reacting to?

I'll never forget 1st hearing this. I was 13 & into all the 60s/early 70s radio stuff at the time. This sounds like a funeral! Then its a horror movie! One of the coolest intro's in history! It sounded like nothing on the radio. Then Made In Japan came out............................61 years old and still a full on Deep Purple freak.

After that "Phantom Of The Opera" organ intro by Jon Lord, it settles down and becomes a plain ol' 12-bar Blues. That's lead singer Ian Gillan on harp (AKA harmonica).
What a great ending to a song,they knew what they were doing.

I played this song for a friend that was into that grungy pig squealing trash metal. He thought the band wouldn't so any screaming and had never heard of Deep Purple. His jaw hit the floor at the shredding guitar solos and long drawn out Laaaazzzyyy!!! I'm so glad my dad got me hooked on classic rock. It's the cats ass. Screamo doesn't hold a candle to bands like Deep Purple.

They don't put a SINGLE NOTE wrong! Not a one! This was and is 100% definitive rock and I've so enjoyed watching your reaction dude - same as me like me 45 years ago when I first heard this
